Sharky, have you played any of the Total War games? I haven't played the new one yet; it's set in the 18th century. However, they are releasing a Napoleon: Total War in 2010, I think February. They also have a Roman one, which I didn't care for all that much, but I heart Medieval and Medieval II - only the latter of which is still playable on current operating systems, sadly. (And by "current" I mean XP, dunno about newer ones.)AstroCityGirl
No, I haven't played them. But that is the one I came across most when I was looking myself. It looks cool, but you can never tell about a game from the company's website. Does your post mean that you payed it? Did you like it? My one concern was the mix of turn-based and real-time play. Can you turn off the real-time battles? Or at least avoid them if you want?

We have a stickied thread for this. ;)JustPlainLucas
Yeah, I tried that. And nobody responded. Didn't think I'd be able to post a question on here and NOBODY would have an opinion.

I am thinking of buying a new game or two for Christmas and need some recommendations from people who have played a lot. I am a bit of a dinosaur -- I like TURN-BASED STRATEGY games. I am not into shooters or real-time games, and I don't play online against humans. Games that I have liked in the past include Civilization II-IV, Panzer General II, and Civil War General 2. I am easily amused and don't need amazing eye-splitting graphics. I like large campaign games that deal with entire conflicts, rather than just one battle. I know turn-based games are not too popular now, so they are pretty hard to find. I will have to buy something online, and of course, you can't rely on a product's advertising to tell you how good a game really is. So I need some of your opinions. Of course, I am using a PC with Vista right now, so good ol games like Panzer General II don't even work anymore (or I'd still be playing it). I am really looking for something in the Civil War or Napoleon genres, but a good WWII campaign game is always fun too. Greek/Roman era games and empire building games (Civilization) aren't bad either. My ideal game would be a Panzer General II-like system based on Napoleon's campaigns. If anyone has any suggestions on games that are currently available that will work on current PCs, please let me hear your opinions. Thanks!
