I've been waiting for XII for more than three years. The problem I have with XIII at this point is that they haven't even finished (that is, released it in the US) XII and they're already planning and working on XIII. I've been waiting way too long for XII, and to be honest, I'm getting less and less interested with newer RPGs (I didn't like StarOcean: TTEOT AT ALL, and I'm having issues with wanting to finish DQVIII). I know that XII will be good and that I'll have no problem with wanting to play it or any other Final Fantasy as long as it comes out before my kids (which I don't have any yet) turn 5. So, I might have to stop with XII, too. It probably seems funny anyway that a 20 year old who's married would be an FF fan with the legions of the younger cosplayers and fanatics (I was one too in my day, though...).
That doesn't mean I won't play the older ones still. It's just the older I get, the more I play my older PS1 games because those are the ones I grew up with, and even if I play newer FFs (which I'm sure I will anyway, no matter who looks at me funny for it), but they probably won't have the same place in my life that the older ones do. But who knows, maybe I'll play newer FFs with my kids, and they'll be just as meaningful. Who knows, right?
As for being ripped off, I say to each his own. Doesn't mean I'm going to buy everything at once, but I probably will eventually. I'm not as big a fanatic as I used to be when it comes to FF (Metal Gear has taken the place of my fanaticism, lol), but I guess I don't know if I'm going to stop at FFXII.
But I'm still a fan of it either way, and to debate whether someone's a real fan because they haven't played something is rediculous. I've never had an interest in finishing Final Fantasy Legend II for the Gameboy, and nobody's ever told me I wasn't a "real fan".
I will say this, though: if you don't like FFVII, then something's wrong with you.
My real name's Chris, I'm going to be 20, I live in Pennsylvania (U.S. for those who might not know).
I really got into RPGs when Chrono Trigger came out, and to this day it's still one of my top favorite games, 11 years later. I've played every FF since VII (except XI because I don't feel like paying for online, lol), and believe it or not, I still haven't gotten to disc four on VIII...
Other than FF and Square Enix games, I play Ace Combats and Metal Gears.
