You can't unlock 570 to 580, only 6950 to 6970.

Ok, so due to my monitor not having a component input, it's getting a little complicated to set up a capture cards, here's what I have.

PS3 > Component Cable > Into Black Magic Intensity Pro > Component out to monitor via either a Component to VGA cable, or into a VGA/component adapter. VGA preferred as the DVI is in use, I could use it if necessary though. > And lastly audio out to my speakers.

My main concern is, do component > Vga cables actually work? I've heard alot about HDMI >component cables not working due to digital / analog conversions, so yeah... thoughts?

Ok I think I may have found a more suitable card, as it's actually made by Gigabyte, the Gigabyte GA-USB3. The main difference I can see between the two is what Black Magic explains to me - "The USB 3.0 expansion card must be one of the following: * x4 lane PCI Express. This card can be fitted in a x4 lane or faster slot in any supported series of motherboard. We recommend the Asus U3S6. * x1 lane PCI Express 2.0. This card can be fitted in a x1 lane or faster PCI Express 2.0 slot in any supported series of motherboard. We recommend the Gigabyte GA-USB3 and the Shintaro USB 3.0 PCIe expansion card." The Gigabyte card is x1 lane rather than x4. I know jack all about PCI, could you please explain the difference here?

I captured it with FRAPS from CS:S, I know there's an in game recorder but didn't bother with it. I'll have to try that HDMI + FRAPS thing aswell, as I find fraps works pretty well, plus it's uncompressed which would be great. And H264 is just a little slow with After Effects sometimes (in terms of rendering and applying effects and whatnot, it just gets really slow) and can be annoying. I do have a P55 motherboard, it's just that the U3S6 expansion card I want to use possibly has compatibility problems with Gigabyte mobos. Otherwise I have everything needed. Pretty much all shuttle quality I've seen has been better than the PVR thus far, but the frame rates have been a little sketchy in comparison Such a hard choice!

Does anyone have any experience with one of these? They apparently have some issues with some Gigabyte mobo's, and I have a Gigabyte P55-UD3, and need a USB3.0 expansion card to use the Black Magic intensity shuttle if I get it. Either that or I just get a Hauppauge HD PVR.

So, any ideas if it will work or any different recommendations?

Oh, I would also need some component cables due to the HDMI HDCP thing, would these be alright? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Monster-THX-High-Definition-Component-Video-Cable-8FT-/180586817754?pt=AU_Electronics_Accessories_Wires_Cables&hash=item2a0bd028da I plan to set it up as PS3 > Component > Shuttle > HDMI > Monitor.

I actually know very little about interlacing, but I assume it's when there's like... horizontal lines across the footage? That's my guess. I've seen it a few times, but I'm pretty sure what I'm using isn't so I won't worry about that. Here's a quick test that I did with those settings - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g77g98ciMjM Anyway, after a bit more research, the Hauppauge is unable to capture uncompressed, and can only encode to H.264 which is difficult to worth with, After Effects doesn't really agree with it. The Shuttles files would be much easier to work with, and can also do uncompressed if I ever got myself a hard drive array. I can also get the shuttle cheaper. The PVR sounds more compatible and easier to work with though... hmm...

I use Adobe After Effects and Sony Vegas 9.0c Generally at the moment I render in 29.97 FPS. The main thing I want is SMOOTH recordings from my cap card, I can't stand jittery footage, it's painful to watch. And I want want quality that I can work with fairly well, that is, be able to do things such as motion track without trouble. Also, I've really only tried mp4 and H264 encoding for youtube, neither were that great. The mp4's were at 14mbps and the H264 was at something like 20-25, then files started getting fairly big. Thanks for your help so far.

I've watched a heap of videos concerning each device, and the quality varies immensely, BUT, I assume that is just poor render settings. I struggle to get good renders sometimes... I have no idea how some people get such good quality. I'm currently using a h264 encoder, any tips on getting good quality?
