A lot of negative press for FFVIII here, aint there? I cant say I agree with it tho. Sure, VIII was "different". It tried on a new development system, and focused more on character interaction than development, but to say that it was ALL about Squall/Rinoa is perhaps a little offbase. VIII focused more on HOW the characters acted together, it showed deep connections and emotional responses. The love story that evolves between Squall and Rinoa stands out, becoz it is meant to. VIII was a love story. I could spend ages talking about this, as Ive researched all the FFs deeply becoz of my Uni work, but VIII was just different, much like XII!

They cant all be the same. I will, and always will love them all.

Confession time. Ive never actually played Final Fantasy's I thru VI....SHOCKING, I know. I came on board with VII. Now with the recent *cough* of my PSP, Ive playing the first 6 (sans III). Ive not long dusted off I, and found it quite cute, and VERY Zelda. But betta. Heh heh...now Ive jes started two and Im already really intrigued by the first central FF cast. Firion, there is something about him I just like. Obvs Ill move onto 4, 5 and 6 in due time.

Reason Im doin this is, I wanna know and understand every playable character in Dissidia. Just because the previous versions are retro, dont mean they aint every bit as deep and involving. At the time, each FF was at the height of its technology.

Seymour, despite bein filled with charmed dread when I first met him in FFX, he has always since been the most disturbing boss, and each of his new forms took me a good few tries to defeat.

Im actually quite shocked after reading this thread. A lot of you have mentioned Mass Effect and Oblivion, and a few others, but Im very surprised that no one has mentioned Lost Odyssey. Correct me if Im wrong please.

Im probably about to commit a cardinal sin with what Im saying, but, here goes.....Lost Odyssey is perhaps the single most fantastic example of a highly polished FF style RPG game, its involving, deep and above all, its made by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the God and Father of Final Fantasy, Uematsu even did the musical score.

Im a BIG FF fan, I love them all, and when I say this it in no way takes away from FF, but Lost Odyssey is in my opinion the "Unfinal Fantasy" and quite simply is better than them all, but thats just IMO, I have played Crisis Core since then, and was thoroughly pleased, but Lost Odyssey is exactly what this thread is asking for, do yourselves favours, stay true to Final Fantasy and at least try giving the game a go.

As much as I love each and every FF, I dont like comparin them in the sense that any are better than the others, due to their unique values, some may always be closer to our hearts than others, but that by no means makes any FF better than any other, and graphics etc cannot be used to define their greatness as time has given us the best games we can play and the stories are wot make them wot they are, ofcourse all the lil niches and touches do too, but to say FFVIII is better than FFVII simple becoz of the bosses, or the characters, or even the villains, is well, preposterous... FFVII and FFVIII are so vastly different its like asking someone to try cheese, and then ice cream and asking which is better, they are jes not comparable (metaphorically speakin....) I loved them both on their own merits and rank FFs only as far as they touch my personal interests.
