So i've been looking for a good JRPG to play and after seeing some reviews on Gametrailers.com, Gamespot, and IGN all giving the game a score of 8+ I figured what the hell i'll stop by Gamestop after work and pick it up. Did it live up to the hype? keep reading to find out!The story can be a little confusing if you really don't pay attention to what is going on around you. Once you understand the story and how the world within the game works it will suck you in. The story is very slow starting off and after you put some time into the game like 5+ hours it really starts picking up. You will get plenty of twist and turns and shocking surprises. The game takes 60+ hours to finish and if not longer with all the side quest to do. Here is the snippet of the stor:"A young man named Yuri, raised in the lower quarter of the imperial capital of Zaphias, joined the Imperial Knights
along with his childhood friend, Flynn, but soon found himself quitting the force, disillusioned by its internal
corruption. He led a relatively carefree life in the lower quarter where he had grown up, spending his days helping to
solve the problems of his fellow residents.
One day, quite by chance, Yuri met a strange girl by the name of Estelle. She told Yuri that she wished to see Flynn, so
he agreed to lead her to him. But he was completely unaware that this strange encounter was the beginning of a
journey that would affect the fates of countless people the world over…"
The gameplay is outstanding and way way better then the usual wait and attack method used in most JRPG titles. The battles in Tales of Vesperia feel like a fighting game with the different combos, and special movies. You have a choice to battle or you can try running pass the monsters within the game world. I myself would fight the monsters everytime I seen one because its actually fun to fight. After each battle the characters will say something witty. That can get annoying sometimes but can be easily overlooked. The game has lots of spoken dialog and some dialog you just have to read. The spoken English dialog seems corny at times and sometimes the game has bad Engrish... due to poor translation. But its not very common and i've only caught one or two poorly traslated words here and there. I do wish they would give us the option to choose between the characters speaking in English or Japanese. It would be a cool idea to include the Japanese track on the Marketplace because I would spend my points on it rea fast.
Graphics fit the game perfect. I feel like i'm playing a anime movie! This game has some of the best cell shading i've seen in a game since Zelda on the gamecube. It's crisp, full of color, and doesn't slow down the game at all. From what I've read the game runs at 60 frames per sec. Not much more to say on the graphics I think the screenshots will get the point across!
Final thoughts... stop reading right now, and go spend your hard earned $60 on this game. Do not miss out on this game with all the other big titles coming out this year. It's sad when great games like this get sandwiched between big name titles and gets overlooked in the mix.
There is so much to see, and do in this game I couldn't cover it all.
My Score 9/10
