Gratefully. It lets me know I can safely spare my time or effort from that person or thing, and focus on other avenues. I believe that energy can be much better spent on people or things who actually accept and support one's efforts. Besides, rejection isn't really the thing that makes us so anxious, it's the anticipation of making ourselves vulnerable to another person. The more open you are to all types of experiences, both positive and negative, the less setbacks like rejection, deception or abuse will hurt you. I forget exactly in which theology the notion originates, but I really believe in letting experiences "pass through" you without getting "stuck". Learning to process and manage input and output in this way has been an absolute life-saver for me personally. But if that doesn't work, then porn. :D

These days, Futurama. Each one of those you list I've liked best at one point though.flipin_jackass
Took the words right out of my brain. And to think I hated that show when it first came out. :|

I'm in roughly the same boat. Haven't really touched RTSs since the days of Warcraft. But I picked up Age of Empires 3 recently, and I absolutely love it. It's actually invigorated a whole new interest in the genre for me. It may seem a little complex at first glance because of the collectible card game element, but it's actually really simple and intuitive, and it's actually become one of my favorite things about the game. The AI will give you a sound (and fair) challenge on medium, but it's basically a total pushover on easy, which lets you really play around and get familiar with the mechanics. The style is pretty lighthearted too, which makes it easier to bear the occasional crushing defeat. I definitely recommend it. Also, if you liked Warcraft 3, try the Warlords Battlecry series. "II" is the one I played, and it seemed to be taking a pretty decent shot at one-upping the Warcraft 3 formula. I had some fun with it anyway, maybe you will too.

First off, hi, everyone. :) Alright, here's my story. I've been gaming on PC for a long time, but I've barely touched an RTS since, like, the original Red Alert. Recently, however, I've had the chance to absolutely fall in love with Age of Empires 3, and although I still have a lot of that game left to explore, I'm already on the hunt for my next RTS score. Naturally, I'm looking for something that would provide a similar experience to AOE3. I think the thing I like best about AOE3 is how it puts emphasis on production and advancing your settlement. I like a good battle as much as the next gamer, but getting to build up my own little empire makes me actually care about defending it. That said, I also appreciate the simplicity of the resource gathering and economic systems. I'm not really interested in managing fifty various imports/exports across ten different nations, and I'm already glad the game isn't any faster paced than it is. The other thing I really like is how it constantly gives you new abilities/bonuses to play with via the age mechanic. I like that I can upgrade/vet my existing units rather than having to just replace them with better ones. Oh, and the TCG-style system with shipments is just cooler than cool. As someone who is also new to TCGs, this element interests me a lot. I would definitely be interested in playing more strategy games with TCG/RPG elements like this. So I'm not necessarily looking for games that are similar to AOE3, just games that somewhat fit the description above. The only other thing I want to mention is that, being someone who's really new to this genre, I'm definitely after something more on the "lighter" side of the RTS menu (read: easier), and ideally something that won't eat the weeks off my calendar. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. :) Thanks much!
