The Old Days

I miss platformers.

I miss how I could run and jump on various odd-shaped platforms in large and highly detailed landscapes. I miss grassy, icy, fiery, rocky and watery terrain.

Too many games these days focus on bloodshed and shooting and whatever nonsense developers feel are bringing in the money.

When Mario Galaxy came out I pretty much felt like I haven't played a game like this since Super Mario 64. Now that's a video game.

I want adventure, and action mixed in. No blood! Well, it's not really that necessary but hell, enough of it.

My Wii and I

My Wii and I are pretty lonely. While I do play every once in a while I pretty much wish I had more games to take advantage of the new HDTV my parents picked up the day Circuit City started liquidating. While the year is still fresh, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for what surprises Nintendo will throw at us for this year's games. Hopefully something good...

The Brawl Is On!

Well, after fighting and losing a one-minute free-for-all tournament and waiting it outside in the cold for another hour, I finally got my hands on Brawl. On a launch day. First time I ever pre-ordered a game and I got it at midnight. Totally awesome =]. Well after playing Brawl for a few hours last night, I can say that it is a whole new game. It feels a little different from Melee although the controls are very responsive. I personally love it! Mario's down-taunt is so funny!!

Start Training!

Well, I've gone back to my old library of whatever remaining GameCube games and getting straight to work on honing my skills in hopes of Brawl's release- It's time to start shaping up, all of you who want to succeed! Get ready for the Brawl to end them all, or so they say... But anyway I'm working on my weaker areas such as successful dodging and catching items thrown at you which can really turn the tide in certain battles. I've also heard of some nifty techniques that can be done such as these insanely quick grabs - ow how in the right mind do people find these things? First it's wavedashing and now we have super grabs heh. Well I'm going to look into this a little bit more even though I prefer to play the normal way without any techniques that aren't mentioned in the game manual or website- I think I can hold my own. I don't know if it's me or what but I've noticed that Brawl's frame rate is a lot smoother than Melee's and I'm a bit worried that it might feel a little loose at first. Meh, I'll get used to it I guess...

You can practically feel that plastic backing...

Up until now I haven't really noticed how close we were to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. At the stroke of midnight on February 24, it will be two whole weeks until us Americans can finally clash heads with the Japanese who have had a little over a month to reap the rewards Brawl has to offer. I'm feeling so hyped that I can practically feel my copy of Brawl within my hands. Oh yes...

Getting Rid of a Few Friends...

Lately I've been making my way to the local GameStop trading in my old GameCube for cash towards my Wii games... While I have sold off almost half of my GameCube game collection- which was about 15 games and I'm about to sell off another 2 tomorrow. That leaves me with my most favored games. I don't think I'll sell those yet. According to the store's trade in values, 3 of the games there that I have are labeled as $14.00 trade-in value, and supposedly this is the highest price among trade-in values for GameCube games. I'd easily net well over $60 with the last remaining 15 games I have (After I get rid of the two games I plan to leave behind). I don't feel like selling Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, both Pikmin games, Mario Party 4 and 5, My two Mario Sports games and Mario Kart Double Dash... well Super Smash Bros. Melee I won't have much trouble with I suppose... When Brawl comes out I likely won't be playing that anymore.

Heh.. I Keep Forgetting

Oh yeah guys, if any of you are interested in adding me to your Wii Friends List send me a message on the Message Board so I can add you in return as I may not be on much during the day here.

Looking Back At Melee: Event 51: The Final Showdown

Ok, there I was, after numerous attempts at Event 50 with all the characters I was skilled with until I had used Donkey Kong, who could take a beating and still live, and I had thought it was all over... until I saw something else below... "The Final Showdown?" I quickly read the description and noticed the name Giga Bowser. Now this was before I had found out that you could have fought Giga Bowser in Adventure Mode by beating it in under 18 minutes without getting a Game Over or whatever it was. I thought I was going to fight an oversized Bowser along with Mewtwo and Ganondorf - just when I thought it couldn't get any worse I saw to my surprise that this was no ordinary Bowser he looked like he was doing some serious steroids! I was quickly finished off a few seconds the first time, and after a few more attempts it just started to get really frustrating. I thought Giga Bowser would be the real problem in this fight but he is easily dispatched- it's Ganondorf and Mewtwo who you are left with instead that really did you in. This all happened in April 2004, I had been playing Melee for just over a year and still was learning the ropes pretty much. I had Mario, Dr. Mario as my main characters and I was working on trying to get a feel for Link and Captain Falcon's fighting styles since I found them interesting. The day I finally wrecked Event 51 was with Captain Falcon and boy was I relieved to be done with it all. The Final Destination course was the coolest reward I have ever gotten from such a game. I would play it in all the Tournaments as a Finals stage because it was just that cool. It also felt very open and I liked that a bunch :)
