Ah, HAWX. The odd man out in the flight Sim world. Not a true simulator, not a true arcade style game. Many love it, many hate it. But where do I stand? It's easy enough to be fun, challenging enough to keep me coming back. For years I played game like IL2 1946, Lock-On, X-Plane, etc. These games are top-notch, but they always seemed to be lacking something. That something was personality. FSX came close, with story-oriented missions that kept you feeling important, but the majority of the sims out there just missed the mark. They left me trying to figure out some explanation for my missions, something to keep me interested, but they failed. HAWX was just right for me. Sure, it would have been nice to sit in the cockpit, trying for elusive missile locks, but the story feeling of the game more than made up for any realism shortcomings. As a matter of fact, I was so impressed with the game that I changed my icon to reflect my love. So there you have it, HAWX from the perspective of a flight-sim purist.
