The autobiography of Stewie_Quagmire
Written by Brody Watson
My name is Brody Watson, I am a 22 year old college student who lives in Peoria, Arizona and used to go to USC(transferred to Arizona State University on guess what, April Fools day). I was the assistant manager of an AMC in Pasadena, California, but now, I am temporarily living with my parents and working at Gamestop.
I have been gaming for 19 years. On a summer day when I was 3, I was introduced to my first video game was Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo Entertainment System. When I first watched my brother play it and when I got a turn to, I was instantly drawn into video games. But 3 years later, when Super Mario Land and Tetris came out for the Game Boy, I soon became a huge gamer with a knack for platformers, side scrolling shooters, and puzzle games.
As early as 12 years old, I started entering gaming tournaments for games such as Doom and Command and Conquer. During this time I had a Compaq Presario with an Intel Pentium 2 processor. When I was 13, games like Diablo and Quake came out along with the sleek Nintendo 64, and that was where I finally became a hardcore gamer. I entered more and more game tournaments and won enough money to keep any gamer happy.
One problem with being a hardcore gamer in your early-teenage years is school. If anyone found out you were such an avid gamer, that was it. Your social life was completely destroyed, and you would be lonely throughout high school. I was a lucky child, who somehow never got fat and kept his true passion a secret. While some kids were playing football and idolizing their favorite sports stars, I was inside playing Mario Kart 64 on my Nintendo 64, and playing games like Tie Fighter.
The year when I turned 15 was an example of the best year of my life. Great games such as Half Life, Goldeneye, The Legend of Zelda: Orcarina of Time, Tekken 3, Starcraft, and Baldur’s Gate all came out, and one pseudo-nerd high school freshman was having gaming nirvana while dealing with being the football and baseball star on the Centennial High School freshman teams.
The turn of the century was the year where I probably did the stupidest thing for a video game. I skipped the prom on May 22 to play Perfect Dark on the day it released. The sad part is, I didn’t regret it. I skipped the junior prom and getting laid to play what I thought is the best game ever. The whole thing of being a gamer and being a jock in school was starting to catch up to me. Being a gamer while trying to juggle through the SATs and being the quarterback on the #8 football team in the state was devastating. I had to take a temporary break from gaming, which I needed to do, but I also missed tons of things in the world of gaming.
During my senior year, I took a break from gaming. I didn’t know much about what was happening in the industry, except the fact that the Playstation 2 was coming out in late October. I didn’t have any money for any gaming accessories, and I had too much stuff to worry about, graduation, college, and teen anxiety. After sports ended and I got an academic scholarship to USC and a full ride athletic scholarship to Grand Canyon College, I got a job at Gamestop and got myself back into the gaming scene.
In college, I was away from home. I was 350 miles away in Pasadena, California attending USC majoring in Physical Therapy and a minor in Literature. From August 2001 to April 2005, I worked at a AMC theatre in Pasadena and in February of 2003, the birthday present from the theatre to me was to be promoted to the Assistant Manager. I was a huge gamer, playing games on my Gamecube, PS2, PC, Xbox, and Game Boy Color. In 2003, I started to use Gamespot and its forums. I still use the site today and I have met some of my closest friends on the site(in state and out of state).
Now I am back in my hometown of Peoria, Arizona and finishing the year at Arizona State University West. I work at a Gamestop in North Phoenix and I am dating my lovely Kristin. I live with my parents (lol) but will be in an apartment soon. I am currently posting in General Games Discussion, System Wars, Off-Topic Discussion, and campaigning myself for the GoScers at the Gamespot Forums. Here is my life in a nutshell.
