Music & Me- What I've had the joy of hearing before

If I had one wish that would be probably to sample every kind of music and to be able to properly identify each different kind. So I think i'll make a list of all I've heard so far and some of the artist's I've heard. I excluded all forms of rap since musicians seem to get offended if I mention any form of rap.

Starting with my favorite kind of music:

Junkanoo: I am from the Bahamas. Junkanoo is a musical festival that happens about 3 times within the year. Junkanoo groups take to the streets in a competition that entertains the crowds. They dance, parade around in costumes, play instruments such as cowbells, goatskin drums, along with many other instruments. Though this competition last for about 6-7 hours, the loud musical vibrations and the contageous sounds keep you up and dancing to the beat.Traditional Christmas Music: Always great during the christmas season, no Christmas is complete for me without it.

Rake & Scrape: Another form of music associated with The Bahamas. Though not done on larger islands such as Nassau or Grand Bahama, it is done more frequently on the smaller islands of The Bahamas. It involves the use of a handsaw, joined by many other instruments. The person who plays the handsaw usually rakes something like a knife (I used a hangar one time, though it didnt sound as nice) up and down. The music blends in nice accompanied by other instruments. Cat Island is the largest island that does this.

Reggae: Bob Marley, Buju Banton, Sizzla, Jah Cure, Warrior King, Beenie Man, Fantah Mojah, Anthony B, Capleton, Beres Hammond, Jah Mason, Chuck Fender, Elephant Man, T.O.K, Gyptian, Levy Barrington, Damian Marley, Maxi Priest, Gentleman, Morgan Herittage, Shaggy, etc.

Never really understood Alternative Rock so someone else explain it for me.

Surf Music(Pardon me if it's not the correct name): The Beach Boys

Rock & Roll: Elvis Presley, Louis Jordan, Bill Haley, Little Richard, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones

Grunge Rock: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains

Post Grunge or as I call it grungieness: Creed, Weezer, Staind, Puddle of Mudd, Nickelback, 3 Doors Down

Indie Music? I still can't recognize it but someone told me Liz Phair sings Indie Music or Indie Rock, personally I don't Care. Her style of music is cool.

Punk Rock woohooo!: Green Day, The Offspring, Sum 41, Three Dollar Bill, Pennywise. So sue me, I don't listen to too much Punk Rock.

Hard Rock: Led Zepplin, Aerosmith, Guns N Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen (Some of these bands/artist can be seen as Early Heavy Metalist...bah!)

Heavy Metal and all the genres that stem from it. Sorry don't like it at all.

Blues: B. B. King, The Blues Brothers, wish radio stations played more blues, but o well.

Jazz: Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, King Oliver.

Anyone ever had the chance to hear rag-time? I think i've heard it before not really sure.

Jazz Orchestra's/Big Bands/Orchestra's: Don't know a band for this music but this type of music rules. I will include Classical Music in this as well.

Opera: I must be one of the few young people in my country that has a taste for Opera. Personally I view Opera's as a story with music and it's very interresting. No Opera's are over here though. I've seen maybe a clip or two from my former music teacher.

Rhythm & Blues/R&B: Johnny Otis, Ray Charles(a true multi-talented genius), Aaliyah, Yolanda Adams (yes she blends both gospel and R&B), Destiny Childs, Mario Winnans, Luthor Vandross, Smokey Robinson & the miracles, Omarion, Nelly, Monica, Brandy, and so much more.

Soft Rock/Pop: Madonna, Mariah Carey, Brittney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Hillary Duff, Lindsy Lohan, Ashlee Simpson, etc.

Soul: The Commodores, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, The Isley Brothers, The Jackson 5, Ike & Tina Turner, Barry White, Pattie LaBelle and so much more. Ray Charles (a true multi-talented genius).

Gospel: CeCe Winnans, BeBe Winnans, Donnie McClurkin, Yolanda Adams, Mary Mary, Shirley Caesar, Andre Crouch, etc.

There is still so much music out there and one day hopeful I would have heard every kind. I'd really like to hear different variations of traditional Chinese music someday.
