[QUOTE="ColonelVodka"]I think there's something wrong with your electrical outlet(s). You should get them checked out. Better safe than sorry. svaubel

This. If you are having the same issues over and over again with different systems, I would check your outlets or wiring. There is probably a short somewhere that is causing this.

Try using the system on a different outlet, and hopefully if its not damaged too much the problem will stop.

I'm thinking this too, its the only thing it can be really, but wouldn't my symptoms be completely different? ATM Crysis 2 and Mass Effect 2 refuse to install, a few other games just load black screen not even logo, Red Faction i'm playing right now and its been working fine for 30mins. Now if it was a problem with my electrics wouldn't the problem be more consistent or could a short cause this sort of thing? I dunno, but i'd like to know if anyone has more info (or can direct me too) on this for sure. Thank very much to everyone. Hearts of gold all of ya!

Thanks so much to everyone! It's really good to hear that most of you have had just 1 Slim and for over a year, re-installs my confidence in PS3 massively.

Are you 5 slim units all purchased new from stores, or are you counting repairs/returns/pre-owned. You can pin in on being extremely unlucky but I'm still more inclined to believe it's the way you treat your console/games

Gxgear

If things were the other way round i'd be thinking the same too; the owner can't be looking after their console. There's just nothing i can be doing to cause this, meticulous is actually understating how well i look after my PS3, but if anyone has any ideas please add.

I'm based in the UK. The first 2 consoles were from my local Game store, they gave me a full refund after the 2nd so i decided to try a different store just in case they had a dodgy batch. The last 3 were all purchased from Gamestation, i'm yet to return this current console. From my point of view it seems like this dodgy batch theory isn't actually that far-fetched.

Please give me input if you have anything at all to add, whacky theories welcome. I really impressed with the responses, although i would like to hear from a few more UK/European owners to see how their experience compares.

Thanks for the replies, good stuff, please keep em coming. The obvious thing is that i don't look after my consoles as one poster mentioned, but the thing is i really do. Its well ventilated and cables are not bunched up, i use an RCD device at the plug and the electrics should be fine. If it was an electrical problem i doubt it would be causing the symptoms i'm experiencing with the PS3, but i may be wrong. I live in a basement, but humidity is not a problem for us at all. If you have ideas to what i may be doing wrong please let me know. There's just nothing i can think of that could be causing this, but i can't believe i'm this unlucky :(

Hi all, my current system suddenly just stopped reading certain games. After only 4 months of working like a dream out of nowhere it stops reading games and blu-ray discs and refuses to install some games if they do finally read.

Now the thing is this is my 5th Slim since release that this has happened to, usually its obvious that something is wrong as games start to crash well before they stop reading, but this last PS3 fault came out of the blue, i thought she was the one :(

I am convinced there is something really wrong somewhere and i know its not me and how i look after my system, i'm meticulous with all my belongings, those of you who play Demon's Souls know this already :P So i want to see if other people are experiencing the same problems that i am with the slim or if i'm just unlucky as hell.

So just a few simple questions. Please only answer if you have/had a slim:

1. Where did you buy your Slim? UK, US, Europe or elsewhere?

2. How many Slims have you had? Just the one or more?

3. How long have you had your Slim? If you've had more than one please also add how long each lasted.

4. How is your Slim doing? Run perfect? Crash all the time? General thoughts on the Slim PS3?

Feedback would be appreciated, if you have any extra input you'd like to offer please feel welcome.

Yeah i've been busted down to level 1 for no reason and can't post in some places. Also Gamespot is still (after months and months now!) not updating posts for hours, is this not being fixed at all or what? I guess as its been so long already its just being ignored, time to start using Gamefaqs i guess :(
