I do not know if it is simply the fact, that I haven't played FIFA 05, 06 and 07, but the fact is that I love FIFA 08 on the Wii.

Most reviewers, be it pros or plain people like myself, have agreed that this game is nothing more than OK, it is a 6'ish game and to some probably yet a disappointment for the Wii as such. However, I have enjoyed the game tremendously; granted, it took us (my brother in law an myself) some time to get used to the controls.

I can see how someone who is used to precision controlling in every move and shot can be frustrated with "powering" the shot just right. But for those who does not own every copy of FIFA and are not power users of the game, I find it an excellent edition that I will be enjoying for many more hours to come.

I have not tried the online part of the game and I am not quite sure I really want to; I believe this is where the game will feel most inferior to e.g. the PS3 and X360 versions. Sketches brought the PS3 version home - it looks awesome but I am enjoying the Wii version just as much if not more.

On a different note, purchasing a second "current" generation console is likely to not happen after all. I was unable to convince myself (perhaps my girlfriend a little too :wink: ) of the necessity.

I recently turned twenty, no not in real life but here on Gamespot level-wise, and thought maybe it is time to look towards more mature games. By this I am of course implying that the Nintendo Wii has not proved to me to be as much fun and exciting as I had hoped.

I am thus currently to be considered in the market for a "true" next generation gaming console. I should say right away that most likely I am not going to play this new thing a whole lot; I am however one to often feel the infamous itch - the itch to purchase something new and entertaining.

This itch has not exactly deminished over the course of the last fort-night, during which Sketchy has purchased not the Xbox 360 nor the PS3 alone, but both! By many such an act is to be credited (virtual) insanity alone and not the expected path of a righteous man and genuine PC gamer.

Hopefully I will have the chance to try both of these fine machines in the near future, hereby building a solid foundation to make a decision on - the decision on which of the consoles to ultimately bring home from a shopping spree. In the unlikely event that he will not be needing both, I shall not stray from offering my help and offing him one of them. :wink:

Lately rumors to my where-abouts have been surfacing all over the web and some have come to the conclusion that I have simply vanished from the face of the Earth. Nothing could be farther from the truth; both what I just stated in that last sentence and the postulate that I should no longer be here.

The fact of the matter is, that I have had my hands full between our six monts old daughter, working overtime and wanting to do everything and nothing at the same time.

Game wise I am holding out for Phantom Hourglass for the DS and Fifa 08 on the Wii. I recently purchased both Evil Resident 4 and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, both for the Wii of course. It just seems that I don't really get to play these games and that's downright a terrible shame.

Still have Twilight Princess to finish as well...

These past days I have followed a lot of the E3 coverage here on GameSpot - especially focusing on what is coming out on the Wii and DS, since those are the systems I currently have.

I am still somewhat sceptic about Wii Fit and the whole balance board thing. Judging from the preliminary release date it seems, however, that I will have almost a year to get used to it here in Europe. I could stand loosing a pound or two so maybe I should just get at it the old fashioned way instead of waiting for an electronic game to save me from my physical decline.

Phantom Hourglass for the DS took centre stage at Nintendo's press conference and I am really liking what I see here. I am excited about this game coming out and maybe if I have a bit of luck and a good streak I'll be able to finish Twilight Princess before it hits the streets of Europe.:roll:

Looking towards the PS3 I must admit that it (and the 360) shows much stronger online components and the Home feature of the new Playstation actually seems pretty cool to me. I would like to see the Miis on Wii be a little more social than the anonymous "mingle" feature which works really horribly in my opinion.

I'm still pretty occupied these days and will probably not be posting a whole lot. Will still pop in every so often, though.

Gimmicky? I will have to say yes, the Wii Weight or whatever the name was of that thing sure does look weird. However, I think I might go buy it anyway because I think it will be something fun in family/party game mode.

Reflecting on the Nintendo press conference I find it hard to see a red thread in what Nintendo is trying to pull here. They addressed "online" by letting EA put Madden and FIFA out there in cyberspace and letting us vote on Miis. Inconsistent! It seems to me that both Sony and especially Microsoft has a much stronger online side to their products.

Yet I still only have the Wii and probably will not get any of the other consoles - at least not in the near future. I am hoping to see some good games come out, be it for the Wii Weight, Zapper or even the Wheel.

I know this is a messy post but I'm also really torn about this thing right now.

This was going to be the game - oh, I had better mention what game I am talking about....

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was going to be the game that would make the Wii shine. Using the Wiimote directly as the wand was just brilliant and so obvious. I had even talked this game up and gotten my girlfriend excited about it because she's a big fan of the books.

Now it seems GameSpot has really taken the gloves off and hosed the game down in its review. An impressive five point oh is certainly not going to get me to shell out. The book was so good - why couldn't the game (for the Wii) just be that?

Just a quick Wii written note to say I am still around. Gaming has seriously slowed down, but I am hoping to see a little more action in the weeks and months to come.

 

It has been little over a month since my last blog entry and I thought I had better give a small outburst to let you and myself know that I am still active here on Gamespot. There is, however, a fairly good reason for my absence.

On Thursday March 8th my girlfriend gave birth to our daughter, our first child. We're obviously thrilled about the changes it has brought about in our daily lives; but of course it has had an impact on the time left for gaming. It has currently reduced to none - more of a choice than a necessity :wink:

I still visit Gamespot almost daily and read, listen to and view your blogs. I try to add a comment here and there but I don't always find the energy for it.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Having spent more than thirty five hours on this game and loving almost every bit of it, I have come to the conclusion that share the opinion of Jeff Gerstmann on this one, I do not. :wink:

The game is awesome, there is no other word to describe it. The fact that Nintendo have just released Ocarina of Time on the Virtual Console leaves little hope that I will part with Link in the near future.

Right now I am trying to distribute time (and we're back in the game world) between the tasks of putting a bridge back together, finding shattered parts of a mirror, searching for someone's lost soul and bringing bugs to a tea party. Oh yes, life is diverse in the land of Hyrule. :)

I also threw some hours after Bomberman Land Touch! which is shaping up to be a fine game - at least in terms of single player. I decided to give up on multi player for the time being because of lag and lack of opponents.

I of course went overboard in announcing that I would be playing and posting impressions on Diddy Kong Racing and Bomberman Land Touch this weekend.

As it turns out I didn't get to play any of those games at all, instead I got the house cleaned and ready for family expansion in addition to throwing in a couple more hours on Zelda Twilight Princess.

I am really enjoying that game and probably will take my time finishing it. I think I have clocked sixteen hours on it but that may not correspond to more than nine or ten of your gaming hours, I fear. :wink: I am certainly taking my sweet time with this one.

Anyways, I will sort of force myself to play Bomberman Land Touch for a while these next couple of days. Maybe cut back on the podcasts for a while.
