Many have tried, and many have failed more than those who have succeeded when it comes to putting a video game adaptation on the big-screen. The ones who have succeeded, created blockbuster hits like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Resident Evil. The keys to their success, is that the filmmakers delivered what the fans wanted. Great effects, awesome casting and epic action sequences. Its movies like those, that make us wish to see our favorite video games hit the box-office. Below is a list of video games that I believe, deserve to be made into a film.
5. Ratchet and Clank
Insane weapons, comical characters and a great story all make the Ratchet and Clank series one of the best there is. Imagine putting on the glasses, and watching bolts, explosions and robots fly out of the screen, as you laugh while watching this beloved franchise in the theaters thanks to today's cutting-edge 3-D technology. Although most would not see the need for a film, I believe that it would be an instant hit for viewers of all ages. VisualiseRatchet and Clank being sent on another adventure never before seen in the video games. Complete with the same humor from characters like Captain Qwark, an evil attempt at destruction from a certain doctor, and the epic battle scenes involvingInsomniac's iconic duo. If Ratchet and Clank ever made it to the cinemas, I would be the first in line.
4. F.E.A.R.
Dark hallways, creepy monsters and a little girl. That pretty sums up what you'll be facing in F.E.A.R.Plus that fact that the little girl is actually an older, powerful phycic determined to exact revenge on those who hurt her in her earlier years. In a nutshell, a film adaptation would be a horror, phycological thriller complete with eerie music, and awesome firefights. The film would most likely follow the events of the first game in the franchise, when a team of military soldiers is sent in to investigate paranormal activity. With Alma(the phycic), and the creatures, spirits and possessed soldiers, the audience would be on the edge of their seats.
3. Half-life
Gordon Freeman never asked for the Combine to dominate humans, he just wanted to discover the secrets of science. With a compelling story, a main character you understand and a crisis so disturbing, Half-life would not only make a great science-fiction film, but also a sweet action one as well. Imagine the ruined streets of the once prosperous Earth, and the resistance, determined to defeat their captors. True it's been done before, but was their main character a crowbar-wielding bad-ass who wears a suit even Master Chief would be jealous of? I didn't think so. Oh and Hugh Laurie, would be a great Gordan Freeman.
2. Kingdom Hearts
Square Enix has blown our minds away plenty of times, but never before have they made me log nearly one hundred hours of playtime into one game. That's what Kingdom Heartsis; a story-driven RPG that will make you cry, laugh and fall silent. I believe the film could take place in 3-D, being an animated film, and would follow the adventures of a new cast and take place during the mysterious Keyblade War that took place hundreds of years before the first game chronologically. A film would not only please fans all over the world, but also boost the franchises popularity and get it's name known to those who haven't had the pleasure of playing one.
1. Halo
We all want it, so why not give it to us? The Xbox's iconic hero deserves a spot on the big-screen, the story of Halo is just to good to be left untouched in the theaters. The epic firefights, boss Spartans and sometimes scary Covenant would all make for the movie of the year. We've seen enough live-action trailers to know 343 Industries could pull this off, why they haven't yet completely escapes me. The story of the Chief's earlier years is almost completely untouched. A movie about his origins, his training and first mission would not only make millions of dollars, but also please millions of fans.
