Imperialism II

It's one of the best 4X games ever made. I could live with just a graphics update, but it would be great if they tweaked combat to include naval battles and the effects different terrains. Sid Meier's Colonization just doesn't even come close to satisfying my Imperialism itch.

Why is the text on the new gamespot so small and jumbled together? I'm having trouble reading or navigating through anything? My computer runs on Windows XP and I use Explorer. When I use my laptop running Windows Vista and Explorer, the formatting is good/readable. My pixel settings are roughly 1280x1024 on both the PC and laptop. I have not changed any settings on either computer through the transition from Old Gamespot to New Gamespot.

Also, I'd like to have more than 5 stories listed on the coverpage of gamespot...assuming I'll ever have text big enough to read on gamespot again.

I loved the game Imperialism 2 and want to see a sequel. Frog City (the creators) folded some time ago, and I'd imagine the license would be obtainable somewhere. Would anyone else be interested in a sequel to Imperialism 2? Wherewould someone go to get a game producing interested in the idea for this game?

As I see it the game could be modified as follows:

1) Keep the basic structure of the currency/goods system. Tweaks could involve new manufacturing items or resource combinations. Have the single player AI's sell and/or buy more goods than the previous edition. Add some more options for automating production.

2) Combat can use a major overhaul. Ship to Ship battles would be a nice addition. Other changes would be terrain affects to combat. Country specific units and/or an experience point systemfor generals. Such as allowing armies to be customized with offensive stats or defensive stats based upon experience selections for generals.

3) 3D graphics could be implemented to add a polish/newer feelto the game. Mostly, Imperialism 2 needs updated to run/run betteron Windows 7 and beyond.

Imperialism 3 might be more suited to a PC than a console. But Civilization Revolution was fun. It took the essences of Civilation and transferred it over to the console. I wish they had done a bit more work on the complexity on the higher levels, but overall it was far more enjoyable than Civ 4 (which required far too much micromanagement for my tastes).

Another game I'd like to see return is Tetris Plus, though mostly for a nintendo DS. Tetris Plus included a block puzzle that must be solved before a professor (little guy) is crushed to death by spikes. This tweak to the Tetris game was so much fun, particularly when you just want to play a simple yet challenging game. If only I still had my gameboy.

My ideas don't fit your premise, but I really hope to see some of the following games made.

Imperialism 2 was one of my favorite turn based strategy games. I still play it today as its way better than Sid Meier's Colonization ever was. It really needs updated for modern operating systems and an improved combat model with ship battles would be awesome. Frog Studios folded and you might be able to get the rights rather cheaply. Heck you could probably change just enough of the entire model and just tag it with a new name, but then fans of Imperialism 2 might not know your game exists.

What happened to space combat simulators? There's been nothing for like 10 years. The first publisher that realizes this is going to make a mint, particularly if they buy the rights to say Wing Commander or Star Wars. Maybe everyone's waiting for the next gen systems in hopes that xbox and ps controllers have some motion controls like the Wii? I'm not into online play, but I'm sure an online space simulator would be a license to print money.

In terms of Space Combat Simulators, I was kinda hoping for a game like Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. Not only was it a flight simulator, but they tried to develop a stategy portion to the game. I'd love a game where you had a strategy component and a play component. Your play can affect the outcome of one battle but if your overall war strategy was bad you could still lose.

First person shooters and platformers are all games every publisher is making nowadays, I want to play something different or something that harkens back to the 90's PC games.
