I got my full licence because I'm a good rider, and in the UK, it's harder too.

I learnt gears myself that's it, then I took a one day course and was restricted for a little while. I've been riding on the roads since 16, currently 18 with a full licence.

I suppose once you pass that course you can get any bike you want, you should be at least restricted for a while.

There is a delay between getting your learner's permit and actually being able to take the road test. I think theres a full year wait if one were only to take the bike road test and only a six month wait between permit and safety course. After you complete the safety course or road test you can get your license but unfortuneatley no you aren't limited to what kind of bike you can get. So yeah, it does suck that after a half year to a year any twit can get any bike.

Edit: Turns out theres only a 90 day wait time but for my state you have to be 17 or older and there are a lot of restrictions if you don't have a driver's license. There are no restrictions to what you can ride.

When you pass it, do you get your licence? If so then I'm glad I'm not on your roads.

I'd rather ride with someone who spent three days with instructors who've rode bikes for the better part of their lives than someone who taught themself to ride. At least they're much less likely to do something stupid and end up a 50 foot red streak down the pavement. Keep your inflammatory garbage to yourself.

Take an MSF bike course, it's a three day course. First day is in the classroom learning how to start your motorcycle, appropriate clothing for riding, bike laws, etc and the other two days you'll be on the range doing bike drills, learning clutch control, steering/countersteering, emergency stops and then finally take the actual road test. Most people with no bike experience pass the course.
