History Channel here in the UK is fairly similar, although there are history programmes on during the day. Unfortunately, 95% of them seem to be about WW2...Ravensmash

That's how it was about 2 years ago in the US...It actually wasn't that bad, either, considering there are so many things that could be learned about it to stimulate different thought on other things...I actually miss that...I don't care how many programs about Hitler and Patton would persist....

Anyone have a clue as to what kinds of plants have grown there? I'm assuming the hole at the top must be gaping since there seems to be non-moss plantlife there...

Yes. Definitely.

South Park, Simpsons, Futurama, Hey Arnold, Rugrats, Spongebob, Fairly Oddparents, Rocket power, and Tom Jerry are great watches...

(I'm 20, btw)

. I just don't see Romney inspiring many people like Obama does.

peaceful_anger

Yes. But, since they're being inspired to jump off a bridge, inspiration will clearly be less important.

Out of the people mentioned, Romney is by far the most competant leader-type figure.

He understands how to maximize strength and stability in economic systems of every level. He's the only one smart enough to know that reputation is only necessary when you're not where you want to be, and that only results matter.

What valid issues? The president has no real power when trying to fix the economy. It's all about convincing stupid congressmen and senators who know nothing about economics that government intervention is needed.

In a recession the only thing to blame is the consumers and the unions. People don't realize that consumer spending fixes recessions but everyone is instead saving up money and making the situation worse. Then the unions who are filled with incompetent fools refuse to accept lower wages from firms, so firms need to lay off thousands of workers.

As for the deepwater horizon, the law prevents government intervention when it come's to a firms affairs. The president has no power and is a mere scapegoat.

Convincing congress and the senate is like teaching a bunch of monkeys how to fix a lightbulb. They try and when they figure out that they can't do it they start throwing feces at each other.

Politicians should never be in government. The country should be run by economists and engineers.

Very well put.

Although, assuming you meant it seriously, I don't think your last statement is good. The purpose of having any form of leadership is to have as few figures who we want to make decisions for us as possible, as a means of simplifying our lives. I think politicians should be able to exist and form government. The problem with our current state is that people have a bad formula for evaluating leadership. Generally, it's who has a cool, savvy personality and who is academically qualified. Obviously, both properties have nothing to do with actually being good at what they're striving for.

Having engineers and economists is no better. I don't know about engineers, but I've seen many economists who are agenda-ridden and would lie to themselves to maintain justification for their beliefs. You simply go from biased law students to biased economic students.

The problem is, striving for a formula of objective qualities to solve the problems. They don't exist. The fact that someone is academically trained in a certain area does not mean he is realistically competent at it when in the real, uncontrolled environment. And even if they're competent, what do you do with "social issues"? And, why is he fit for decision making outside of what he professionally specializes in? The fact that he's something holds no weight in comparison to whether or not he is a smart/ has great perspective.

We need to get away from academic-based qualifications in every walk of life. It's an objective concept, but not having to do with reality.

Lol. This is clearly biased to assert the motivations were strictly "vacational". As president, you're job is to simply manage things and make some executive decisions. It's not to go to the whitehouse every day. The fact that he wasn't there is no evidence at all that he was strictly vacationing. If you can do the same things that you can at the whitehouse in a less chaotic environment, you're going to. Bush could do the same things there.

This is evidence we live in one, big echo chamber.

Because the males are typically the more desparate one--or, at least, they don't know how to play the game and reveal their hand too quickly. The females know they'd be willing, while the male doesn't know. So, to make sure, he just gives more up.

Basically, most males are stupid.

The rest in that series aren't worth reading. Ender's game was worth reading because it illustrates competance. The rest aren't meaningful additions. You won't get excited after reading the first. It's clearly the best.
