Ncaa Best of 06

NCAA07 Publisher:  Electronic ArtsDeveloper:  Tiburon

Why It Rocked: Usually college sports are much more emotional than professional sporting events. The rush of energy from beating a rival, watching players elevate their play during key moments of games and feeling the roar of the crowd from more than sixty thousand people as they cheer for their alma mater is something that can't be beat.

NCAA Football 07 captures just about every single facet of the college sport experience. With the momentum system gauges, one single play can literally turn the tide of a game, demoralizing an opponent and pumping up your athletes to reach for an extra yard or tackle just a bit harder. The newly included trick plays means that just about any snap of the ball can gain additional yardage or even a touchdown. The revamped Campus Legend mode gives players a sense of what being a student-athlete for your favorite school is all about. Along with sharper visuals, better sound and ESPN Integration, NCAA Football 07 is the game for sports fans.

Best action game of the year

BullyPublisher:  Rockstar GamesDeveloper:  Rockstar Vancouver

Why It Rocked: Deep action games are Rockstar's bread and butter, which is why it comes as no surprise that this year's premier PS2 action title was Bully, Take-Two's latest foray into all things reflex. Although it was initially feared to have "questionable" subject matter, all of the pre-release paranoia was totally unwarranted. This wasn't a Columbine simulator as some had proposed, but a kick-ass jaunt into the world of high school politics.

Built on the same engine that powered Grand Theft Auto, Bully's excellence isn't found with any one element, but numerous ones. There's the intuitive combat system with cool hand-to-hand mechanics. And when fisticuffs aren't enough, players also have an opportunity to try out absurd weapon types like firecrackers, itching powder, and slingshots. Bully also benefits from a living, breathing township and academy that introduces new characters, mission-based challenges, and more optional mini-games than you can throw a stink bomb at. In other words, action fans shouldn't miss it

8 gig

It was about a year ago that we first heard of Sony's 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo. The 4GB and 8GB sticks were announced during CES 2006, and both were slated to be released some time during 2006.

2006 came and went, and only saw the release of the 4GB stick. It looks like we'll soon be getting our 8GB sticks; Sony has announced that the stick will be out in February of this year for $300 USD. So when SanDisk announces their 8GB Memory Stick that will of course be better than Sony's, expect it to be in the $250~$275 USD range. We'll keep our eyes peeled.

Just as a side note, the Firmware and Homebrew Capabilities Guide reminds of us of a vital point related to this Memory Stick's capacity: you will need firmware 2.81 or above to use it. As you can see on the chart, support for Memory Sticks larger than 4GB was added in firmware 2.81.

THe iPhone

Apple announced their newest product on the market, the iPhone. Although many can argue it's not on the same level as the PSP, it does share many of the PSP's features (music, internet, video, etc.). Engadget gives you all the iPhone pictures you would ever want, and there's a specs list on the official site.
IGN sat down with Criterion to discuss the upcoming PSP and PS2 exclusive: Burnout Dominator. When asked about why the upcoming Burnout series is a Sony exclusive, Criterion has this to say:

"There are still millions of people out there with PS2s and PSPs and we really believe that we will deliver an intense, next-gen style experience, especially on the PSP."

See the full interview here. It's also supposed to provide downloadable levels.
Looks like Nothing is the most wanted PSP game in Japan. Kind of a strange name for a game if you ask me, but I suppose there's been weirder. Anyways, PSPFanboy tells us that it's more anticipated over MGS: PO, and Final Fantasy Tactics.
Just to get you a little excited, there's a "rumor" (though it's bound to come soon) that Dark_Alex is preparing 3.03OE-B. Here's a quote from the report that you guys can rip apart: "Btw about those people who use to play videos on their psps will be happily surprised, but I wont say more". What's in store for us movie watchers? More when it's released.
