An Analysis

So this is just basically my boredom getting to me and deciding to do an analysis of how things will be going sales wise for the rest of the year (mostly between 360 and PS3 anyway, Wii is too unpredictable). In June, PS3 dominated 360 in sales according to the June NPD. PS3 sold and easy 404k vs. 360's 270k or so. There are obvious reasons as to why PS3 sold so well during June, Metal Gear Solid 4. MGS4 was able to drive PS3 sales (not just in America) through the roof. And the re-introduction of the backwards compatible 80GB model definitely helped sales. However, sales could have been higher for PS3 during June had the new PS3 model not sold out everywhere pretty much on June 12th. As for 360, it was really having a hard time competing in June. Besides Ninja Gaiden 2, 360 really didn't have anything to big to compete against MGS4 and a new PS3 bundle (and even NG2 was no match). Now the July NPD hasn't come out yet but I'm willing to be 360 beat PS3 last month. The reason is simply because of the 360 price cut (or clearance sale) to 300 dollars. However, PS3 will also have some relatively strong sales this month because of carried over momentum from MGS4 and the new bundle being more available. However, PS3 might lose some sales do to the fact that they are replacing the 40GB model with an 80GB model next month. People might have held of on buying the 400 dollar PS3 last month due to the improved model coming out this month. If Sony had been smart, they would have gone the way of Microsoft and had a clearance sale on the 40GB and put them at 300 as well to compete with the 20GB 360 directly. It would have been a very smart move on their part. In all, i think July's NPD will end up with PS3 at about 290k, maybe less, and 360 at about 360k, maybe higher. As for this month this is really a neutrual month as far as i see. Neither system is bolstering big exclusives just a slew of multiplatforms. I think sales will die down for both systems however, as the 300 dollar 20GB 360 becomes unavailable and the new 350 dollar 60GB 360 comes in. I think it will be a close one but i think 360 will have a slight lead over PS3 in August. I would put it at about 250k for 360 and and 240k or so for PS3. September though things get intersesting (particularly for 360). There are rumors poping up that the 360 Arcade is getting dropped to 200 dollars early September. This is exactly what 360 needs in some sense. Because the 360 Arcade is the more family friendly model and in September 360 has the timed exclusive Rock Band 2 coming out, which is a big family friendly game. However, I dont think this will have too huge of an impact on 360 sales as the Arcade is the least bought of the 360 models. However, i think 360 will easily have a win over PS3 in september since PS3 has big games come September so i say 360 at 310k and PS3 at 230k. Though 360 may have won July, August and September by my bets, it is what it needed. Because 360 is gonna get hit hard by PS3 in October. 360 does have big name games Fallout 3 and Too Human coming out October but they will simply not be enough. Sony is gonna bring out big guns Motorstorm 2, SOCOM, possibly Rock Band 2 on PS3 at this point, Bioshock, Naruto, and of course, LittleBig Planet (an of course, Fallout 3 is also coming out on PS3 during this time). I think Sony might be pressured by the 360 price drop in September to drop the price of the 400 dollar PS3 to 350 or so in October. It would do big help. However, even without it, PS3 is going to have massive sales during this point. LittleBig Planet may go up next to GTA IV and MGS4 this year and be one of the highest selling PS3 games of the year. An SOCOM is gonna drive a lot of PS2 owner to upgrade to PS3. Also, it is very well possible that Home may launch during October. If Sony got their act together and did a lot of advertisment for Home and LittleBig Planet especially PS3 could have enough momentum to set a new sales record in October. So my guess for October, if Sony advertises like crazy, drops the price to 350 and launches Home 550k, maybe higher. Otherwise, i'd say around 400k and I'd put 360 at around 250k. November will be a very interesting month for both systems. They each have their rival shooters coming out, Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2. But first let me just get things out of the way and say Gears 2 will sell much more, maybe 2:1. I think if Sony didn't drop the price in October they definitely will this month. So with their biggest games at their disposal, I'd put 360 at around 390k and PS3 at around 390k as well. Its going to be a very difficult month to see who really comes out on top. 360's price drop in September will really come to help in December though for the Christmas season. Parents looking to buy their kids a video game system will see that 360 is the cheapest system, even cheaper than Wii and much more available, so they will make it their prime choice. However, PS3 will definitely get that price drop by this point. I'd say both systems will do about the same this month as well though its too hard to tell just how much that may be. Overall, I'd say that in 2008, PS3 and 360 sold equally in North America (360 possibly a slither more). However worldwide, PS3 will have dominated 360 this year. At the end of the year, I'd say Wii in first (duh) with around 37 million sold, 360 in second with around 23 million and PS3 in third with 19 million. I think that with a price cut next year though, and God of War 3 and Killzone 2, PS3 will overtake 360 worldwide by years end.

Long Time No See/ 10 Most Anticipated Games

Well its been a long time. A very long time. About 4 months. I had been on since february but i hadn't updated stuff. Finally, summer boredom got to me and i'm doing it. First things first, picking up from my last blog, i did get a Wii. And i got Smash Bros and Mario Kart. And they were great...for 2 weeks. Damn it Wii, you got me again. Note to self, no matter what the game is, Wii will always only be fun for 2 weeks tops. However moving past that and on top my PS3 and 360, things have gone through quite the shake up in those worlds. For example, my 60GB PS3 broke just 2 days before GTA IV came out and about 5 days before my birthday. It was awesome /sarcasm. I had to get a 40GB because the 80GB w/ BC were no longer in production. Adjusting to my new PS3 has been hard (still not completely used to its features or lack there of). However, to ease some of this blow, i did buy a 320GB hard drive so memory is no longer an issue. I will buy a USB and SD/Memory Stick adapter next week to help on those fronts too. And as for BC, i'm looking to find a way to fix that. And as for my 360, despite many ups and downs of yes im gonna sell it, no im not gonna, yes i am, I think i am finally at a conclusion. No i am not selling it. There are many reasons: I love GH2 and Dead Rising, Halo 3 is fun, etc. But the reason that i am keeping it, is Gears of War 2. Damn that game looks good. And that brings me into the topic of this blog: My 10 Most Anticipated/Wanted games.

10. Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty

I was very excited when this game was announced at E3. Not only because it was new Ratchet and Clank but because it's one of the first to truly see some innovation. The way they have changed up the gameplay by adding several new functions to the wrench is terrific. I especially thought it was cool how you could hold those little green guys for traveling through dark caverns. it also seems like they are focusing a lot more on puzzles now which is always good. and they flowing up on Tools of Destruction's story so that makes me happy as well. It would be higher up on my list were it not for the fact that it's a shorter game.

9. God of War 3

Do i really have to say anything? It's freaking Kratos. I'm just so glad he's finally back and kicking a$$ on PS3. Not much known about this title which is why its only number 9. However, if the rumors are true and the gameplay looks anything like the trailer, we are going to have a new best looking game.

8. Motorstorm: Pacific Rift

When I saw it at GDC this year, Motorstorm was lucky to make it on my top 30 list. However, after seeing it at E3, it easily makes my top 10 list. Its amazing how much this title has improved in so little time. The graphics look absolutely stunning. And the much needed split screen is finally here. And trophies and custom soundtracks?! Wow. Motorstom Pacific Rift is shaping up to be a contender for racing game of the year.

7. Fallout 3

Not only is this game pretty (very pretty I might add), it's pretty long too. About 100 hours or so. Yeah, you're gonna be playing this for a while. And from what I saw at E3, the weapon system seems to be really deep and offers tons of customization (and im a sucker for customization). Its looking like its gonna be one of the best game out this fall.

6. Killzone 2

Up til now, my main reason for hyping Killzone 2 were the graphics. They were, and still are, stunning. And i mean absolutely stunning. I still have a hard time believing that what i'm seeing is actual gameplay. However, now i can finally say that there is something that Killzone 2 has that I think is better than its graphics: its multiplayer. From all the info that has been released, Killzone 2's multiplayer is looking to be nothing short of magical. While the single player is still looking a bit flat at this point (only one level seen so we really can't judge) the multiplayer is worth the 60 bucks alone. And in today's FPS world, you can have an alright single player and an amazing multiplayer and be considered GOTY by most *cough*CoD4*cough*.

5. Resident Evil 5

Up til now, I had always said that Resident Evil 5 looked great. Sharp graphics, RE4 ****gameplay, etc. However, in the back of my mind I felt it wouldn't impress as much as RE4. that's all changed. Online Coop anyone? Now you're not alone anymore when you are getting the crap scared out of you. Oh and the gameplay looks amazing.

4. Rock Band 2

Who didn't see this one coming from me? I loved Rock Band 1...a lot. I haven't put it down since I first played it. If you read my review, you'd see I was hard pressed to find problems with the game. There were a few but nothing severe. Luckily in Rock Band 2, thats all getting fixed and we're getting several new useful features that i wasn't expecting. And Backward compatible DLC is awesome. That means about 300 songs at launch including its 84 brand new, awesome tracks.

3. LittleBig Planet

I LOVE LITTLEBIG PLANET! its that simple. the possibilities are endless. Joker Sackboy? Check. Helghast Sackboy? Check. KRATOS SACKBOY?! CHECK?!!! This is MGS4's competition right here. Oh and its the cutest thing to happen to gaming ever.

2. Gears of War 2

What do you get when you take Gears of War and put it back in the oven for another 2 years to fix all the problems it had? Gears of War 2 of course. Quite literally, Gears of War 2 has fixed every single problem I had with Gear of War 1. As said before, this is the main reason I am keeping my 360. Gears of War 2 is looking so good that there is only 1 game that I could think of that I'd rather play.

1. Resistance 2

Come on, do I need to explain this one? 2 campaigns, 300 foot monsters, 8 player coop, 60 player online multiplayer, immense scale with gigantic battle cruisers, stunning graphics and did I mention the 300 foot monsters? Resistance 2 has improved in so many ways its almost unreal. It is truly a stunning sequel to PS3's best launch game, one of the best shooters ever, and the game that made PS3 worth owning in its early months. Resistance 2 will blow everyone's minds.

So closing comments, I can't wait for this November. It's gonna be 2006 all over again. Resistance vs. Gears of War again. And this i dont think that a winner will be so clear.

Smash Brothers Dilema

Well you all know me, i hate the Wii...a lot. I had a Wii for about 10 months, sold it and have never regreted it. I knew the only thing I wanted was Brawl and how good could that really be? I would have been fine with never playing Brawl if it hadn't been for the fact that i just resently played the first on the N64 and now I've got it bad for Smash Bros. I even went so far as to buy a gamecube late last night to play Melee. However, alas, i know that Melee will not be enough to hold me over. I refuse to buy a Wii for 250 dollars again but I none the less will probably end up getting one again. I'll probably split the price of a used on with my friend and just deal with having a Wii. just thinking about having to own a Wii makes me mad but I can't do anything about it. Smash Bros is one of my favorite games of all time. And when there is something that I want, I get it, no matter how stupid it may make me look.

GDC 08: My Predictions

Let me just start off by saying that these predictions will be rather low on the Wii side of things since I really don't pay too much attention to the Wii. And with that, I'll begin this blog.

GDC 08 is really, in my opinion, going to be one of the biggest gaming events this year. 2008 has started off quickly and things are really looking up for the PS3. First month of 2008 it beats 360 in sales in US for the first time. On top of that, Blu-ray has all but destroyed HD DVD with analysts expecting Toshiba's withdrawl from format wars by Tuesday. Also, theres been talk of price drops, new 120GB sku's, dualshock 3, and of course the growing hype for giants like MGS4 and GTA IV which are going to be heavy sellers. However, even with such a great start to the year does PS3 have GDC 08 in the bag?

I really would have to say no on this one. Sony will have a great GDC. They will show off new Haze, Singstar, LittleBig Planet and other games. Then they will bring in the show stoppers with a new FFXIII trailer. I believe that the new trailer for FFXIII will not only show actual gameplay of the game but new areas of the game, reveal more story info and state a December 2008 release date. While this will be one of the biggest things for them to show off at GDC, there are still many other. For the first time since E3 07, we will get new Killzone 2 footage. This is vital. Not so much to PS3's success but to Killzone 2's success. While there was a lot of hype for this game back at E3, it slowly died down and Resistance 2 has taken almost all the attention now. Sony really needs to show off more levels of the game, have a playable demo, and show some info on the online portion of the game. And while we're on the topic of Resistance 2, that will be at GDC for sure. It will have an epic trailer that will truly set this game apart from anything else you'll see just on the sheer scale of the game. RFoM was great; Resistance 2 will be an epic masterpiece. And then of course lets not forget MGS4. what i really want to see from MGS4 at GDC is new areas of the game. I'm kinda getting tired of seeing the same old middle east background. i wanna see some of the other locations like the mentioned africa and south america settings. And i'm almost 100% sure that Konami will finally set a release date for it. My guess: June 20th 2008. Lastly, but of course not least, Home. Sony needs to confirm a release date and make it soon. I believe that they will announce it for early March. And i want them to show off just how well it will run and how it will improve the Playstation Network by showing off how easy it is to join a start or join a game with a group of friends directly from Home. And of course along with this, I'd like to see In Game XMB, hopefully launching with home. My last wish for the PS3 would be some God of War 3 footage. Now, i'm not really confident it'll be there, but i hope so. At the very least, I want a trailer with Kratos standing atop a burning mount olympus with something like "the battle with the gods, ends here" said.

Now with all of this from the Sony side, how can they not dominate GDC? Very simple. Microsoft, I believe, has GDC taken. And all they need to do is show off one thing: Gears of War 2. MGS4, FFXIII, Resistance 2, Killzone 2 and LittleBig Planet are all awesome games that are better than Gears of War 2 (for the most part) but I predict that just like RFoM, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, and Ratchet, they won't be able to deal with the gorery, every-fratboys-dream, hype machine that is Gears of War. With its slick visuals, intense gore and overall badass-ness, it will steal the show just like Gears of War 1 did. And despite Epic saying that they are not working on Gears 2, come on. Who really believes that? Now what else does Microsoft have planned for GDC? Banjo-Threeie and a new KOTOR would be my prime bets. Now, there is a chance that the new KOTOR could end up on PS3 since Bioware was bought by EA and well, its EA, but at least for GDC, it might be a 360 exclusive. Then there will also be Too Human of course but I really dont see it hitting off too well. There will be news on Fable 2 but probably nothing more than trailers. Then stuff on Alan Wake and Splinter Cell. What I'm most about from Microsoft at GDC though (besides Gears 2) is Ninja Gaiden 2. This game will probably very well end up being my 360 GOTY 08. Now other games that could be there will be Halo Wars but I really dont see people getting to excited about that and I believe possibly another Halo spin off. Maybe Forza 3 but I doubt it. Game wise, Microsoft really doesn't look as strong as Sony going into GDC. However, I believe that they will show off new Live features that will continue to put Live ahead of Playstation Network, even after Home. And while I don't believe that we will see it at GDC, i do believe that Microsoft are working on a new sku, either that or a Blu-ray drive. By E3 08 we will know for sure though.

Lastly, there's Nintendo. Now, I really can't predict much on the Nintendo side of things just cuz they tend to think completely opposite of what I would think. But my predictions are more demos of Wii Fit and other "Wii" style games. Among those Wii games I'm sure will be Wii Sports 2. This one will support online play and will feature new additions like basketball and possibly football. It will also feature overall a lot more content than Wii Sports 1. Then they will show off sales numbers like always and more non gamers playing games. Of course they will also show off SSBB but theres really not to much left to be said about it. I think that they might also reveal future plans for downloadable content for games like GH3 and soon to come Rock Band and possibly even SSBB. Overall, Nintendo will have about the same show they always do except that this time they wont have SMG or MP3 there anymore.

Overall, expect to see alot of games like GTA IV, GT5, SSBB, Halo Wars, Alan Wake, Too Human, Haze, and Wii Fit but not really get too much new info on them. However, the big news will be around MGS4, FFXIII, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Gears of War 2, Wii Sports 2, and possibly a new Halo game of God of War 3.

Devil May Cry 4

So I finally got my copy of Devil May Cry 4 on wednesday. Let me say that at first, i was a bit skeptical about getting the collectors edition. I really didn't see a reason for it but I did it anyway just so that DMC4 could stand out amongst the rest of my games. Now, i am soo glad that i did get it. The cover is awesome and the metallic box is the coolest thing i've ever seen (espcially the inside art). The anime is also really cool and i'm considering getting the rest of the series when it comes out and i'm really glad the got the US game voice actors. anyway, as far as what i think of the game so far (up to chapter 13): Gamespot is out of their effin mind. Gamespot had had some flounders as far as reviews go in the past (Resistance, Gears of War, Warioware, Uncharted, and of course lets not forget Ratchet and Clank Future) but this one is so close to taking that cake. This game is so so so much better than a 8.0. To me, at the very least its a 9.5 by gamespot standards. This game is so much better than 3 (and i loved 3) and the whole game has just felt like a truly cinamatic experience from the opening cutscene to the beautiful landscapes. I really dont know what Gamespot was thinking. To say the least, i love this game...a lot. And so far, it has lived up to my expectations and exceed them in some parts (the amazing rumble the game has is one of those). All in all, get Devil May Cry 4. I dont care if you get it for PS3 or 360. just get it. and if you can, get the Collectors Edition, you wont regret it.

Gears of War 2 will outsell every PS3 game this year

Yup thats right. That statement is coming from me. I strongly believe that Gears of War 2 will outsell every PS3 game this year; that includes Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, LittleBig Planet, GT5 and Resistance 2. Gears of War 2 might even be the top selling game of 2008 but its a tough call since it will be coming out so late in 08 and SSBB and GH4 will probably have huge sales as well. However, this changes absolutely nothing for PS3's dominance of 2008.

Let's start off looking at PS3. If you're into awesome games, PS3 is the way to go this year: Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, LittleBig Planet, GT5, Haze, and if the rumors turn out true, we might see FFXIII and Crysis on PS3 this year as well. Each of these games is amazing in their own way that completely overshadows Gears of War 2.

Metal Gear Solid 4: do i really need to explain why its better than Gears of War 2?

Killzone 2: Despite what people say, "Killzone 1 sucked!" "Guerilla hasn't proved itself as a developer" "It's going to flop", as far as I see it, it has the same killer system selling formula as Gears of War 1: Sharp graphics, brutal gore with shiny blood, cool physics, large bosses, and a heavy multiplayer focus. What makes Killzone 2 any different than Gears of War 1?

Resistance 2: Winter of 2006, Resistance 1 and Gears of War 1 faced off and at least on Gamespot, Resistance was defeated. This time, things are different. Resistance 2 is not a launch game, Insomniac has mastered development on PS3, and massive improvements to the game. 2 story modes, 8 player coop, 60 player online multiplayer, 3 different character types for coop, slick graphics, and the guarantee of more awesome guns. What are the rumors of what Gears of War 2 is adding to the formula? From what i've read: 4 new guns, destructible enviorments, and 4 player coop. Gears of War 2 suddenly seems really out gunned.

LittleBig Planet: This will probably be PS3's best seller and possibly highest rated game of 08. At every show its been at, its stolen the show. Despite not being a gore-fest like Gears of War, this game will be one of the most liked games of 08.

GT5: The greatest racing sim is back on the PS3. Graphic wise, no other racing game has ever looked even close to this good. Add over 500 cars and car damage* to the formula and its dedicated fanbase, and GT5 is set to take racing game of the year.

FFXIII: If this game comes out in 08, even if just in Japan, PS3 systems sales will explode. Not even Gears 2 will be able to save 360.

So lets look at what PS3 has going into the 2008 holiday season versus what 360 has:

MGS4, KZ2, R2, GT5, LBP, Haze, FFXIII?, Crysis? vs. GeoW2, NG2, Too Human, Halo Wars, Splinter Cell 5, Alan Wake

Just from looking at this you can tell Japan and Europe are PS3 territory in 2008. And as for America, I just dont see NG2, Too Human, Halo Wars, or Alan Wake having the staying power to compete against 3 FPSs (KZ2, R2, Haze), Metal Gear Solid 4, or the huge monster that is LittleBig Planet.

Add all of this info to the 120GB Dualshock 3 $499 PS3 coming out, and you realize that even with Gears of War 2, 360 has no chance. So go ahead and have the best selling game of 2008 360. It wont change the fact that PS3 will still dominate 2008.

Oh man this makes me mad!

You know its things like this that make you realize that we (cows, lemmings, sheep, hermits) shouldn't be fighting amongst ourselves. We need to learn to live with each other and realize that each of us are great for our own reasons and that we each have great games. Our real enemies are people like this (minus the guy defending Mass Effect in the video).

Big News on PS3's Biggest Games

It's been a good week to be a PS3 owner hasn't it? Well, if you dissagree, I've got a few things that are bound to make you agree with me.

Lets start off with:

LittleBig Planet

Sure, it kinda sucks that the game got pushed back to September. alright, it doesn't kinda suck, it really sucks. I'm from what websites have been saying about this game and from the numerous honors it has recieved (Best of GDC 07, Best of E3 07, Best of CES 08) from several places, this game could easily end up being a nomanie for GOTY this year. However, whats great about LittleBig Planet this week? Well MediaMolecule has confirmed that there will be a public beta sometime this year! Awesome!

Little Big Planet: Public Beta

Next up:

Metal Gear Solid 4

Once again another nomanie for GOTY this year. And we have all heard about how this game isn't coming out til Q2 08 and that there's not gonna be a demo...or is there? Lately, sign are pointing to yes, there will be a demo. A demo coming out next month on the PS Store. keep in mind this is still a rumor but its getting a lot of publicity so who knows?

Metal Gear Solid 4 Demo?

Next:

Devil May Cry 4

I finally preordered my collectors edition of this game today. Cannot wait til the fifth! Anyway, to those of you who were doubting that this game would be awesome, heres something that will prove you otherwise. I only read up to the part that says "This_is_what next gen gaming is all about" though cuz i dont wanna spoil this game for me at all, what so ever. PS, we get a demo on the 31st (although i won't be playing it again, to not spoil the game).

Final Fantasy XIII

The latest scans from a Japanese magazine are just amazing. They brought my jaw to the floor. I was saying, how can you make a game that looks that good? And on one of the pages it says 2008. Possible worldwide 2008 release??

Final Fantasy XIII scans

Next:

Crysis

Yup, things are looking good for us now. All signs are pointing to Crysis making its way onto PS3. While still not official, I would say that i wouldn't be to surprise if PS3 owners are playing Crysis before the end of the year.

Crysis PS3?

Well thats pretty much it. There also some Resistance 2 info but im pretty sure we all know about that already. Less than a month into 2008 and PS3 already looks to be soundly dominating this year.

Cannot Wait For Tomorrow

Its like a dream come true. Blink 182 is going to be in Rock Band tomorrow. How can life get better? Sure it is All the Small Things but hey its Blink. And from what I know theres no such thing as a bad song. Hopefully the next song will be Dysentary Gary or better yet the whole Enema of the State Album (since EA is planning full album downloads). The only way the can top putting Blink in Rock Band is.....well theres realy no way. They could come close if they put Not Alone by All that Remains or something by the Offspring but nothing can top this. I love Rock Band.

New Theme! (Devil May Cry 4)

Finally got a new theme. I really liked my old one, espcially the banner and icon (not so much blog image), but this one beats it. Why? Cuz its Devil May Effing Cry 4. GOTY 2008 anyone? okay maybe im over exagerrating but it is easily my most anticipated game for this year. It will probably end up being one of my favorite games of all time. Heres links to my two favorite trailers:

Devil May Cry 4-Trailer of the Year

This trailer shows off some awesome action in the first minute and a half but its after that when the games cutscene/cinematics/story come into play that you are blown away.

Devil May Cry 4-Final Trailer

This trailer is all cinematics but just so amazing as well. Its a must watch.

Well with less than a month to go til it releases i guess its time for all of us to rejoice (well those of us with PS3's and 360's anyway). Devil May Cry 4 is gonna be one of the best games this year.
