Rosie is a little tank engine. She loves to shunt trucks and do jobs with her best friend Thomas. One day, Rosie was very excited indeed. She had been chosen to take the wooden heart statue to The Fat Controller's annual Valentines Carnival. Rosie loved Valentines Day because she loved hearts and the colour pink, so it was a priviledge to bring the heart to the carnival.
She puffed into the docks to find a crane lifting the heart onto a flatbed.
"Wow!" she exclaimed.
After a while when the heart was loaded, she steamed off. However, she was so excited that she had forgotten to wait for the workmen to secure the heart.
Soon she puffed into Maron station where Diesel oiled up pulling a freight train.
"What have you got there?" smirked Diesel in his oily voice.
"The Valentines Day Heart!" she bubbled.
"Pah!" snapped Diesel. Diesel had never liked Valentines Day, and because he didn't meant that nobody else could like it either. He had concocted a devious plan to sabotage the carnival, and blame it all on Rosie. Quickly, the shunter uncoupled the trucks, while Diesel reversed onto another line. He crept up quietly and gave the flatbed a mighty BUMP! Rosie looked back. The heart fell off the flatbed, and with a screeching CRACK! the heart fell onto the flatform and broke in half.
"Oh no!" Rosie cried, and was uncoupled from her flatbed. She was so distraught that she ran away past several stations. The driver and fireman tried hard to calm her down.
"Heh, heh, heh!" Diesel cackled. "No witnesses..." But he was very wrong.
Neville was on a siding, having a drink, when he saw everything.
"Did you see that?" he asked his driver.
The driver nodded. "C'mon Neville..." he soothed. "Let's warn Sir Topham!"
Soon, Neville arrived at Edward's station. His driver had gotten out and went into the station to use the telephone. Edward, who was on a nearby siding, was wondering what was all the commotion.
"What's going on Neville?" he asked.
"Emergency!" Neville wheezed, and told Edward the whole story.
"Well, I better get Rocky and recover the heart!" puffed Edward, "Can you tell Rosie that everything will be fine?"
Neville nodded. "Sure..."
Once his driver came back, Neville told his driver Edward's plan and they set off to find Rosie.
Rosie was on a siding at HillTop station, still weeping, when Neville steamed up.
"Don't worry Rosie!" he whistled, "Edward's helping you as we speak," and he explained Diesel's actions.
Rosie beamed. "Thank you!"
Neville blushed and looked at his buffers.
That night, Rosie and Neville delivered the heart, and everyone was very happy. Rosie was so happy she gave Neville a kiss.
"Thank....you...." stuttered Neville.
This time it was Rosie's time to blush.
"No, thank you!"
"And thank Edward!" cheered the driver.
Everyone cheered, and both Rosie and Neville would agree. This was a great Valentines Day!
