I don't agree with your complaint that the only way to resolve things was to kill people, as...well that's what an action game is all about. I don't think anybody played God of War for the puzzles, they played it to kick people's ass; same thing with Devil May Cry. What's more, the fact that they didn't show off any puzzles isn't particularly odd, as (again) it's an action game and so people are playing it for the action.
I agree that the demo felt far too short, but then again I've played a ton of demos that I felt were crippling short, and they didn't necessarily reflect upon the game's actual length or depth of content. Now, if you didn't enjoy what you saw, then I can certainly give you that, I felt this was an action game with a bit more brains then God of War or Devil May Cry, but it is really hard to tell from just a few minutes of action if this will be the case throughout the game.
