WAW has (had?) the biggest imbalances. All SMGs, the STG and that anti-materiel gun are the best. SMGs have too much range, STG is the only AR and the PSTR or whatever it was was the WAW equivalent of the Barrett. MW2 is almost as bad with Commando being a 1-hit, no-aim kill and on consoles, quickscoping is ridiculously easy. I felt Black Ops had the most balance by far, at the expense of some weapon variety (not cosmetically, but some guns were almost reskins of one another). It was a slower pace and I find myself wishing I had it instead of MW3 now. Definitely recommend Black Ops over the others, but I read it has technical issues on PC.

When I talk about pacing, I mean in a continuous play session. Stopping and then coming back doesn't count.

I have to say yes. Though I certainly prefer to have a physical copy, I acnowledge that it's just bling. Provided that I'm guaranteed not to lose access to my digital games except in extreme circumstances (PS3 hacking crisis), I would not really be opposed to such a system. Of course, I wouldn't be saying this if I were the victim of one of those download limit restrictions.

I'll try this again: I once played a demo or shareware of a puzzle game in the mid-late 90s. It involved switches, a marble and one of the levels was called 'Hortencia'. No, it's not marble madness.

As far as decrepit, post-apocalyptic worlds go, Fallout 3's was better. What FNV does way better is the characters and the story, which I felt were grossly mishandled in 3. I cared about none of the characters or the plot in 3, except for the 2-3 well-known mind****. But FNV gave me interesting factions to work for or against, powerful personalities like Mr. House, and so many story-critical decisions it's mind-boggling.

I have some interesting ones: - Ring of Red (PS2): A little known Strategy RPG with an anime style based in an alternate Cold War scenario where Japan is divided like Korea. Drags on and lacks variety in the latter half, but I loved it for the story and the gigantic lumbering WW2-style mechs (yes, you read right). The battles were really great, with several squads shooting each other while you control the mech's movement and firing, and special abilities. Would love to see a sequel/remake. - Cuban Missile Crisis (PC): A Blitzkrieg spin-off with a distinct lack of polish. It's just a bunch of cool ideas with an extremely flawed execution. It's a post-apocalyptic world where the four superpower remnants struggle for resources and habitable land. The core of your force is tanks (some of them WW2 holdovers), which you maneuver on a strategic map to capture and hold resource points like fuel and ammunition, both storage and factories. In tactical battles, infantry is almost entirely cannonfodder while tanks and aircraft are absolutely precious. The battles had atrocious execution, with predetermined maps that give a massive advantage to the camping AI making the first act an unbearable slog, and it doesn't get much better even with heavy arty and bombers.

Lost Odyssey started off strong and then just kept going downhill, way down. By the last disc, it was tedious, grindy and I couldn't care less about the story. I don't understand the players who say this is 'the real FF13'. Come to think of it, they both kind of declined, but 13 at least only starts to do so in the last third while still having good gameplay.

Call of Duty Black Ops (multiplayer) - Best pace in a COD, good balance, fine maps. Had a lot of fun. MW3 is just too fast and claustrophobic. Fallout New Vegas - This came out very glitchy, and boy did the reviewers make them regret it. It's a great game, a worthy successor to the first 2 in the series. A definite upgrade over 3.

This is why user reviews are largely worthless. That is, the ones written by 10-year-olds who don't understand the concepts of 'moderation' and 'fairness' and think the score should mean 'how I feel about this game right now'.

Advance Wars, but FE is also great. AW has that awesome approach to warfare with warlords eagerly sacrificing hundreds of their troops while cheery music plays. Except Dark Conflict/Days of Ruin, which wasn't as great.
