I know..youve probably read some gamers rant about this millions of times. Usually the rant comes from a 14 or 15 yr old that wil be affected. Then why would a 21 going on 22 yr old black male have a problem with such blatent censorship? I'll explain...

I, Thatblack1, this blog writer, is not only a gamer, but a graphic artist in both 2d and 3d. I am studying to get into production of not only movies (I want to phase out actors and use 3d exclusively) but video games.
Video games although they say that the new stuff is "innovative" it is not used as a good artistic medium as yet. The Good artistic stuff is few and far between. That is where this censorship comes in. Imagine me, getting a independant company off the ground then realizing I have to scrap all the stories and scripts that i wrote, that took years in development, not only in my mind but taken to student and professional writers alike. Complete with concept sketches, practice models and animation in 3d. Sounds like time well wasted right?

One can assume that one like Jack Thompson and Hillary Clinton listened to the radio, watched TV, maybe even read a comic or two for enjoyment. These 3 meduims in the past were deemed demonic by christian extremist of that time, and conservative extremists as well. What in the world happened to them? They became politicians, so were the extremists right? (incoming joke) Well i guess it kept Hillary from performing her duties as a woman...(ooh low blow)

I can rant on about how parents need to be in the picture. Remember I'm a 21 year of black male. I failed to mention Jamaican too. So i had strict parents that allowed me to play games (they explained what "concequences were"). Hell I was more afraid of what they would do to me than the government. Thats good parenting. The REAL question is what can we do as GAMERS?

Yes GAMERS, we've been identified publically now. We're an offical sub culture, not limited to our magazines, g4, and conventions. We're up there with the Pop, Goth, Hip hop, nerd, jock, crowd now. And we can multitask in the other groups as well. Now that we have been identified we need to step in in the politics that govern the very games we play. We not only need to enlist the help of the gamers but developers as well. We need some sort of unified front to tell these people that we are not crazy rampaging killers. Some of us have families, girlfriends, wifes, husbands, jobs whether high or low paying. We have real lives, AND self control. We are responsible citiziens of our community that enjoy playing games.

There are always going to be those few that will use anything they can as a scapegoat. Politicians as well will do the same just to get elected, that does not mean that we need to suffer. The future of our games are at stake. The future of the many people paying thousands at colleges to make YOUR FUTURE games are at stake. Gaming is becoming a big part of the economy and is growing. Advertising is benifitting. TV, even movies(albeit most if not all have sucked here's hoping that DOOM won't).

We must write to our politians, as much as you make think that they are liars and sell out all the time. We must show that it is it their best interest to support us. We must also show that our freedoms count too, do not support any gaming company that bows without a fight. Seriously, if the we give the companies money to make quality games and suddenly they bow out because they don't want trouble, then they don't support us. We want what we want and we have the dollars in our pocket for it and nothing else.

We must prove we are the bigger men and women and we will not be bullied by greedy self rightous lawyers and extremist of ANY kind. We the ADULTS of the gaming world must stand up for ourselves. This will hopefully teach the younger generations that emailing death threats to John Tompson himself does not make the whole look good.

If this gets taken away from us, who knows what else they will do?
