The Single Player Multiplayer Price Point

think I can say I have played my fair share of games over my gaming history. It seems with every next gen console game prices go up. What's the average price these days 50$-$60? I honestly think that the price is too high and should only have one exception for a $60 price tag, the game must feature single and multiplayer gameplay.

Here are a few examples:

Heavenly Sword
Value: $40
The game was by far great but I completed it in about 7 hours, it felt like I was just getting into the game and the end credits rolled.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Value: $60
This was a single player game but the amount of time you could spend playing feels almost endless and has an enormous amount of replay value.

Uncharted 2 Amoung Theives
Value: $60
The game featured a robust single player mode, co-op and innovative multiplayer, it is indeed worth every last penny.

Basically what I'm trying to say is a game that is a single player or multiplayer only should be around $40. I don't consider myself cheap at all, I just like getting my money's worth on games and I image you do as well.

Socom BETA

The PS3 forum has been filled with people talking about the BETA. They should really makea a sub forum for this topic it's insane. So instead of posting something I decided to blog it. I want to remind people that this is a BETA. I don't know why the public expect perfection from it when its only been out for six days. There is a software patch out and they are doing all they can to fix it.

Socom: Confrontations BETA in my opinion is good if you can get a decent game started. I try to find 8x8 rather than 16x16 due to the currrent lag issues. I played through the game a good number of times to get the feel of it. The SIXAXIS in my opinion suites the game well as for as leaning behind cover. They did it in a way the the SIXAXIS feels like it serves a purpose compared to other games. The map featured in the BETA is Crossroads, its a broad map with nice soft spotting, sniping and close quarter combat. I see why the map was chosen for the BETA. A new feature is that when the enemy is close you can hear them talking, which is too cool (goes for each side). There destructable things suchas cars, bikes and gas cans. The graphics are a step up from previous ones but dont exactly look next gen. The controls are different from previous games but are customizable. There are a handfull of issues though, getting on to the server, loading times, lag, freezing, appearing as another name in the lobby, sound issues and being booted.

Getting on to the server I have heard was a big problem in the first few days but lately i believe it has subsided. Loading times are a big thing in the game, without a doubt you will probablly wait ten to fifteen minutes to get in a game less if you joined a game in progress. Lag is my biggest issue along with others sometimes you will be walking through the game and a red X will appear on your screen making your character stop moving and you have no control over anything in the game for a second or two. It usually happens in crucial points when your being shot at. Freezing can happen when the game is loading and you might be sitting there for thrity minutes. Some people have stated they appear as an unnamed character in the lobby I have not had the problem but have seen it happen. Recently in the game I have had sound issues where the sound in the game is gone comepletely when that happens your character also sprints in a blurred vision. I have been booted twice from a game (not voted out) and could not get back into the room.

The Console War

Maybe it's just me but I prefer to be a gamer than a fanboy drone. I have all three next gen systems which I enjoy to the fullest. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all have solid systems with their own pros and cons.

I will be the first to say it from a non biased point of view, console war wise Microsoft is winning. Since the 360 is the oldest of the three systems it has more exclusives, better online play and a wider fanbase. Games like Gears of War, Halo, and Fable make the 360 worth while. This holiday season I doubt there will be alot of 360 sales for the fact that most people have one.

Sony is slowly coming back in the race, people talk trash saying Sony was shafted by Final Fantasy not being a PS3 exclusice but how quick do we forget that Bioshock is now coming to the PS3. Sony's exclusives like Little Big Planet, Socom, and Resistance 2 will be making a splash soon. Not to forget God of War 3, Home and Heavy Rain. Sony just has to remember that they had the most successful video game system to date (the PS2) and what made it successful was not the graphics or extra features but raw, pure gameplay.

The Wii, given to us by Nintendo so this system deserves our respect. Super Smash Bros, Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart alone make this system great. With motion sensing controls that really work well the Wii really stepped up to the plate. It brought back Super Mario Bros 3 showing that time has not hurt that ****c game.

Basically What I'm trying to say is that all three are awsome. I just don't understand why people cannot be gamers and insist on being on Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo's whore.

Watchmen

When I saw The Dark Knight on opening day I was pretty excited, but apparently Waner Bros put the cherry on top with the Watchmen trailer. I was freakin floored when I saw it. I only heard rumors that the movie was coming out and it lokos badass. I have been waiting for a Watchmen film for years and this one looks pretty damn good.

First thing about the trailer Dr. Manhattan, he looks so real it's insane. In my wildes dreams I never thought CGI could even pull it off. Second it looks like they are going straight from the graphic novel most scenes looked identical from the pages of Watchmen. Third the Comedian, first I thought it was Downy Jr then realized it wasn't him he looked SICK lighting his cigar with a flamethrower.

If you have not read the graphic novel I suggest it, not just as a comic book geek, it is on Time Magazines 100 Best list. I can't wait for the film to come out.
