Okay, in case you haven't read in my previous post, my Internet was upgraded and all of a sudden I'm downloading things left and right. So I'll just have a little comment on what I've downloaded.
The Last Remnant Demo:
Call me stupid or ancient, but I don't see why people call this game bad. I really like the combat system (sure, it's still turn-based, but I like being able to interact during combat, and the combat plays out realtime, too). There's a lot to do and shows plenty of the game through the demo, but (as with Japan's ports to PC), the keys require some figuring out to do (just like RE4). It's been too dang long since I played a JRPG, and this demo has just adamantly insured its position in my buying list this summer.
Medal of Honor: Airborne Demo:
My first question was: Why the heck didn't I get this game? My second question was: Was it really supposed to work this good? I mean, it's EA, for crying out loud. It's an awesome game, not a lot of people like CoD-style, but enough to keep you from being German bullet-bait. The cover system is what I liked the most, being able to lean and adjust your height while aiming down the sites.
Gothic 3:
A lot of people said this was an Oblivion-killer. I fail to see the difference. I died while trying to run back to camp, but I was poisoned and I died mid-air as I tried to jump into the camp (A major LOL moment). Not to mention that the detail is horrible and has the same "Loading Area" things like Oblivion. Just that Oblivion looked better while doing them. The skill tree is also very confusing... it says I have 20 "learning points" yet I can't use them on anything? WTF?!
Devil May Cry 4:
It runs pretty smoothly for one of Capcom's second or so title on the PC. I like the gameplay but I can see where it gets really, really repetitive. Though the arm thingy is pretty cool (I wish I had that in DMC3).
Dynasty Warriors 6 Demo:
Okay, I like the DW series, but I did not like where they went with the direction on this. It's pretty much just running around and killing things. And you don't even look cool killing things anymore! And they completely screwed around with what the characters looked like and their weapons as well. It's just... not cool anymore. :(
Combat Arms:
I do ridiculously well for a noob. That is, until some a-hole hacker started ruining everyone's game. Psh, the nerve of people on the Internet.
Tom Clancy's HAWX Demo:
Pretty good. The sky and city details are absolutely awesome (Rio de Janiero, Brazil). It took some getting used to with the controls, but I eventually got it. Fared pretty well, though not in an actual fight against the combat UCAVs; I ended up getting hit 4 times before I realized that braking and pulling up was a great way to get the drop on them. Still don't know how to barrel roll... but I'm sure I'll figure it out. The controls are pretty simplified for the PC and it felt natural to pilot my jet.
Okay, now onto the main mission instead of rookie training. Your people (The Artemis Global Security PMC), have been ordered to protect little Rio from the attacks of another country. Coincidentally, they've got their little navy positioned right outside of the port. So guess who gets to take it out? You, of course.
The first little thing I noticed, is that you have a wingman. I suppose this would be where co-op comes in. :P The combat gets nice and dicey from the start, with you given the objectives to eliminate air and naval craft. Now, in dogfighting, "drifting" (braking your thrusters and pulling up) saves your skin a lot more times than you think, and is also a great way to evade missile and pulling extremely sharp turns, which goes without saying that if you do nothing but turn left all day trying to get a lock, you won't make any progress. The dogfighting mode really makes a difference in jet combat; without it, it would have been one heck of a pain to target and fire missiles, since you need a direct line of sight.
And that ends that! Next demos up are: NFS Most Wanted and Necrovision. If anyone has any recommendations for demos (or full games) for me to try out, please post them here. :)
