Another day of E3, another day of yawning. But hey, THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIII WAS STILL ANNOUNCED BY ATLUS, SO STILL WOOHOO. The lack of a overdose of sexy Mai art by Atlus is dissapointing, maybe soon.
Anyway a rundown of games I saw today while watching G4 coverage. E3, only time anyone is glad they actually have G4...suck it Direct TV users. Too bad Morgan Manjaw and her jaw of manlyness is always there to give you nightmares.
Batman Arkham City: Hey look it's Catwoman, and you're forced to play as herfor 10% of the game, according to the developers, since they added her in just to say it has playable Catwoman. If there is 1 thing Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 and 2 taught us, that is forced on playable female characters in the main campaign is annoying as ****. Anyway this game is pretty simple to sum up, if you like Arkham Asylum you will like Arkham City, if you hated Arkham Asylum you will hate Arkham City. More of the same but with more moves and a bigger game world.
Fable The Journey: Since the 10 remaining Fable fans after the disaster that was Fable 3 is still 10 fans too many for the series, Peter decided to give us this. He says it won't be on rails, they just made the demo on rails for a smoother live demonstration, I still don't care Peter.
WWE 12: Hey it's a WWE game that has more improvements than chair physics. This is me still not carring.
Star Wars The Old Republic: Haha, Bioware. Next!
Street Fighter X Tekken: With Lili being teased in the E3 trailer with her jumping across the screen for half a second showing off her boots, legs, and a bit of her skirt I got a bit more interested in the game (Asuka Kazama, Lili's rival, was also briefly teased in the trailer too). Anyway the gameplay looks a bit faster, and smoother than SFIV. Apparently it's using a system, I forgot name, that's basically a chain combo system like in BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Darkstalkers, and Marvel vs. Capcom 3, giving the game much more combo focused gameplay, along with the juggling system to add some Tekken flavor to the gameplay. Graphics are still the same as SFIV (SF characters still have the exact same character models from SFIV), but some improved coloring and some other changed graphic effects make it a more pleasing looking game, and the backgrounds look more detailed and colorful than SFIV's bland ass dreamcast quality backgrounds. Might be a better game than I was expecting.
Ratchet and Clank All 4 One: It looks like a fun little platformer. They talked about how it works solo with it being a more traditional Ratchet experience with Clank as your backpack, but still want to see it instead of only co-op. Should be fun, it's nice to see a more platformer, less shooter, Ratchet and Clank again.
SSX: I really didn't pay much attention. Looked like another generic snowboarding game to me, not the fun SSX of old.
Kinect Sports Season 2: This game looked much better on the Wii.
Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine: It's a game, where you play as a space marine, and you shoot stuff. New, and exciting. Okay there is melee combat too. I can tell you are excited by a Space Marine shooter. *crickets churp*
Resistance 3: THAT'S A LOT OF BROWN! Looked much better than the super short showing ofcrap they showed at the Sony conference. Interesting they're now going old school health system with no regenerating health at all, back to health packs. Glad to see you can carry all weapons you pick like in the first one, and they said weapons upgrade now. Looks like they're wanting to make a more old school shooter in general. I guess the Call of Duty wannabe that was the second one didn't go over so well.
Final Fantasy XIII-2: Hey it looks exactly like FFXIII, BUT WITH QUICK TIME EVENTS AND LIGHTNING'S STUPID LITTLE SISTER SERAH! OMFG I'M SO NOT EXCITED FOR THIS GAME AT ALL YET! Didn't show it but talked about how you can recruit monsters and what not. *Steven Tyler pops up* "Fantasy, Fantasy, Final Fantasy wants to be Shin Megami Tensei! Fantasy, Fantasy, Final Fantasy wants to be Shin Megami Tensei!" *shoots Steven Tyler* Anyway sounds like there will be more exploration, and the game will be less linear, with branching story paths depending on how you do in the quick time events it sounds like. Hopefully this means most of the game's "level design" won't basically be walking down repetitive corridors with pretty backdrops until you reach a certain area towards the end of the game now.
Kinect Star Wars: Do you like waving your arms like a douche, and then 1 to 2 seconds later, depending on how lagging in response the game controls are wanting to be at the time, something finally happens on the screen? Then this game is for you! Do like smooth responsive gameplay? Yeah this game probably isn't for you.
Gears of War 3: Showed off some of the new horde mode. Every 10th wave you now fight a boss, like a Brumak or a Beserker (I think they said there will be 1 of 6 different bosses selected at random every 10th wave). I like the little body armor mechs you can pilot, I so hope that's the closest things to vehicles in this one. :P Also quote of E3 goes to Mister Cliffy. "What can fans expect differently with this one compared to the last one?" Cliff:"Well online will actually work."
