In the video game business, there are 3 things that decide whether a game is successful or not:
# Sales.
# Reception from critics.
# Reception from gamers.
1. Sales - let's start here. Halo 3 has sold extremely well. It's at about 10 million, with sales of more than 3 million in 1 day and ~1.8 million in 8 hours This makes Halo 3 inordinately successful, but since all the haters claim that sales =/= quality, let's move on.
2. Reception from critics - well, what can we say here? 9.5 from GameSpot. 9.3333 across all reviewers = AAA+ title, highest-rated FPS this generation among critics. OK? Get it? SUCCESSFUL.
3. Reception from gamers.SURE, some people will say Microsoft payed GameSpot 1 billion dollars to give Halo 3 9.5, and that the game sucks. Well, what can we say here? 1.2 million played HALO 3 ONLINE within 24 hours and nearly 3 MILLION played it ONLINE in its first week. But did they grow tired? LOL! No. It was the MOST PLAYED game on Xbox Live in 2007 and 2008 and is destined to crush the competition this year! Also, over 1 BILLION matches have been played with about 64,000 years of playtime.
4. Halo 3 = successful. That's already proven. CRITICS LOVE IT, GAMERS LOVE IT, ITS SALES ARE EXCELLENT, whether you hate it or not. No exlusive FPS game comes close this generation.
5. So, if you hate Halo and only think it has its sales to be proud of, and read this thread, CONSIDER YOURSELF OWNED.
