A big day on TV.com! See: Important Notes on Gaming and Ban Policy! The news broke when I was abed, 0500 local time, so I didn't find out until hours later. I was struck that so many knew immediately who was the high profile subject of the sanction. For those who were oblivious, you might want to revisit my You Tear Me Up blog, which highlights the destruction of just one show guide, to see how it was done. TV.com staff have not done this lightly: missribs has been aware at least since the first announcement that gaming was not allowed, when the contributor in question justified, in public forum, adding "Coming Soon" to episode guides just to secure editorships, with a view to adding summaries or simply deleting the "Coming Soon" at some later point. That point never came, but originally-worded summaries are too time-consuming to allow one to make 300+ submissions in a day. On the same thread, the contributor justified adding one actor at a time to an episode guide as she considered two points an inadequate reward for doing any more. But these things take time to investigate, and the contributor was more concerned with a daily demonstration of how much more industrious she was than anyone else here than she was with correcting one or two of the guides under her jurisdiction, leaving TPTB with little option. I confess to my surprise at the severity of the sanction, but only because she and I both thought she had become untouchable. I date my general dissatisfaction with the site to my perception that they weren't listening to users, and turning a blind eye turned to outrageous gaming. Both of these concerns have now been addressed, and the good people at TV.com have acquired my renewed support.
Happily, the guides edited by this contributor falling within my sphere of interest remained unaltered from TVTome days. I made all necessary corrections to The Gentle Touch some weeks ago, and inherited the guide today. Unhappily, the guide that first made me aware of the nature of the woman back in late summer has now fallen to the other cheat I have been complaining about in these blogs! Oh well, one day at a time!
Perhaps now we can get back to normal business, and all work together to make TV.com the best infomation resource we can! On that basis, I would be quite happy if those who have offered to assume responsibility for publishing the league table refrained from doing so. League tables have never encouraged responsible contributions.
