well i still dont have an answer to my question, but whatever. i backed up all my save data from games that dont have a lock on it yesterday. So I guess I'll just delete game data as needed, and if something gets corrupted I'll have the backup.

So you're saying it's the lock that's causing it not to work?

Okay so here's the story, I have a 40 GB ps3. I tried to play AC: Revelations yesterday and it said I didn't have enough space. I checked system information and it says I have 832 MB/37 GB. So I added up how much space was taken up in the game data utility and it was only 25 GB. That's my first question, where's the other 10 GB? I have no other media on it. So then I test out deleting the game data and keeping the save data on an older ratchet and clank game. It works fine. I just had to reinstall the game data, but all my saves were there. So now I try it on Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 and it's a disaster. When I turn it on it updates for like an hour and then it tells me the data is corrupt or missing. Well, it isn't missing because I see it under the saved data utility with the proper date and everything. So that means it's corrupt somehow. Here's my other questions: 1. Is there a way I can get my data back? Thankfully I played it safe and tried this on a game I don't care much about. I'd still like to get some of my created superstar stuff off it though. 2. After this happened, I looked at the saved data information for the game and it said "Lock: copying prohibited". Does that have something to do with it not being able to access it or something? 3. Isn't there some way to keep my game saves and delete the game data to free up space without corrupting the saves or buying a new hard drive? Thanks for any help.

I got my ps3 somewhere around early-mid 08. I was playing yesterday and everything was fine. I don't believe it was shut off improperly, although I can't say for sure. Today I turn it on and it loads the ps3 logo, but none of the users will come up. It's just that plain background infinitely. I'm assuming it's a corrupt hard drive, I hope I'm wrong though. What can I do to fix this? Also, if formatting is necessary how do I go about it? Thanks.
