-In which we explore inevitable doom-
You've heard it before. "Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo are gonna die!i!i111!" But you've never belived it. Why would you? All the systems were selling just fine. There were good games available for every price range, and everything was going quite swimmingly. That is, until theseventh generation(now, for those of you that can't keep track). I believe that Sony is going the way of the Dreamcast. Here are some examples(with pictures!):when it first came out, the PS3 cost big bucks. Almost 700 dollars, plus 60 dollars for a game, and around 40 for another controller. That's almost 800 dollars.
^Equivalent to half a PS3
Cmpare the PS3's demanding price with the much more affordable Wii, and you can see my point. Nintendo played the game pretty smooth, turning rabid Sony Fanboys("MUST GET PS3!! WII IS TEH SUX!!") to rabid Nintendo Fanboys("MUST GET TEH WII!!! PS3 AND XBOX TEH SUX!! LINK FTW!!!") However, the Wii's innovative approach to control lost a lot of the target demographic, that is, the hardcore gamer.
v Not Hardcore.
v Hardcore!
Naturally, a pearly white console with an odd control scheme and a collection of minigames couldn't possibly appeal to the hardcore gamer. Never mind the fact that it's affordable and adorable, the tough ones called it deplorable. Which is why hardcore gamers waited, patiently, for the release of the PS3. Alas, most were disapointed. Take a look at some signature quotes on the forums and you'll see why. When the long awaited PS3 was released, the masses were less-than-excited. Very few good games, exclusives lost every day, and a hefty price kept the big black brick from greatness.(When you see advertisements for a launch title from last year every day, things aren't good).Which brings me back to the topic at hand:Sony will die, and soon. No, I don't believe they will die from one failed product, I just believe that their console market is coming to a close. They will most likely continue making games, and I'm sure there will be some good ones. However, the PS3, or maybe the PS4, if they're lucky, will be the last. And I'm not an Xbox Wii60 fanboy. Microsoft, and eventually, Nintendo will both follow into that cold, dark abyss that harbors the souls of has been videogame giants.
Just think about it for a second:Sony used to be the top dog. They had two wildly popular consoles, and a fanbase so strong, they could feasibly take over the Earth. But, it seems like they screwed up. Look at the info I've supplied above, and you can see a pattern. Sony is going down, and Microsoft takes over. After a little while, they screw up, make some blunder(The xxXboXxx perhaps?) and fall down as well, making Halo games for the W11.(see, I replaced the i's with 1's to simulate 11! Aren't I smart.) After that, I predict two possible outcomes.
1:Nintendo no longer has any competition and becomes king again.(This is likely, because Microsoft and Sony are likely to take a dive pretty soon)
2: PC's take a quantum leap in gaming and affordability, and consoles are all but extinguished, a pleasent memory for Grandpa. The second option I think is more likely, simply because the PC doesn't become obsolete. When you want a better, more powerful one, you upgrade it. Plus, you can do so much more with it. With a console, after five or six years, you need a new, sleeker one that doesn't even gurantee backwards compatibility.
And with that, I thank you for reading,or skimming, and promise I'll bring the funny soon and not bore you with something thought provoking.
