@Bowser05 @PosiTVEMinD355 @Collateral96 I've heard a few people complain about the 3DS's performance online. It's about the same as the Wii U one (which is pretty p*ss poor).
@Celsius765 @The_Gump My connection is totally fine. It's not the fastest on the planet, but that's not necessary for an online game. Fiber optic connection with 25mbps (or 3.2ish MB) and 10mbps upload. I also have an excellent router.
I play many online games: first person shooters, a couple mmo's over the years, etc. Never had a problem unless it was a temporary issue with the game.
The problem with Smash Bros is that if even ONE person in a 4 player match has a crappy connection, it screws it up for everyone else in the game. To make matters worse, if you keep leaving matches, you get banned apparently. So you basically have a gun to your head, forcing you to play a completely lagged out match.
If they can get Mario Kart 8 right, they can fix this. They need to.
@PosiTVEMinD355 @Celsius765 Nintendo hardware usually lasts longer than most others. I find that a lot of stuff from back in the day (late 70s and early 80s) was pretty resilient. My friend is a collector and his freaking Intellivision still works. Nintendo seems to be the one company that carried this tradition of reliable hardware (considering how many PS3s and 360's went belly up).
@QingJao86 @ditronus I've tried the online portion of the game for the past few days and there's more laggy matches than decent ones. And no, it's not a problem with my connection. I play quite a few games online and they're flawless.
As much as I love this game so far, the online performance is unacceptable. Brawl's online component was broken to the point of being completely unplayable and this isn't much better. FFS, Mario Kart 8 performs flawlessly online. Why can't this one?
