Xbox 360 Impressions

After around three days of playing on my Xbox 360, here are my early impressions.

Visuals
The games look absolutely incredible. I was slightly worried that the improvement from Xbox to Xbox 360 wouldn't feel like a complete generation jump, but it does. I've had my fair share of jaw-dropping moments in all the games I've played, and after at least a dozen hours of playing, I still have a hard time focusing on the game instead of just starring at the scenary. So visually, the Xbox 360 delivers.

Games
I bought Perfect Dark Zero, Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo, and Call of Duty 2 with the system. All of the games look great and are incredibly fun. It's nice to multiple quality games to play at launch, which hasn't always been the case for system launches in my opinion. Perfect Dark Zero is great fun, especially online, and is damn hard, even for a seasoned console FPS player that I consider myself. Auto-aim is nonexistent from what I can tell, so it's difficult to land hits on your opponents, but when you do, it feels great. Project Gotham Racing 3 doesn't stray far from its predecessors, which I don't mind at all. Both offline and online the game is great. Kameo is better than I thought it would be, and I think Rare has done an absoutely awesome job to stepping up to the plate and delievering the best single-player experience they ever have. The graphics are a little inconsistent, both the most and least impressive graphically moments I've had playing the system have both been in Kameo. I'm not a big fan of these types of games, but after playing about 3 hours of the game, it's won me over. Call of Duty 2 is the game I've played the least of and probably my least favorite of the bunch, but it's still really good. The single-player is really intense, and I love the WWII setting. Xbox Live seems pretty laggy and doesn't deliever quite as much as PGR3 or PDZ. Overall, the only launch line-up to challenge it is Dreamcast, but even that it may have beaten. (Of course, I'm not a fan of sports or fighting games...)

Dashboard
I had heard good things about the dashboard before getting my console, but I had no idea just how great it would be. It looks gorgeous and is easy to navigate. The themes are a nice touch too. The iPod connectivity is one of my favorite features of the whole system so far. Whenever I want in a game, I can choose a playlist, artist, album, or song to play, and it plays. And it never stops - never. Nor does it skip at all. It works especially well in PGR3 because of the style of the game.  The achievements and Gamerscore system is just brilliant and works great for all the games I've played.

Problems
As far as all this overheating and freezing talk goes, I've had very few problems. I've had no overheating problems at all. However, in PGR3, sometimes it doesn't like it when I check player's Gamercards in the pre-game lobby, it's frozen twice on me when I tried to do that. But other than that, the system has ran perfectly. Some have complained about the fan noise, but it isn't bad if you ask me. I can never hear as long as a game is going.

Overall
I'm a very happy Xbox 360 owner, and I'm confident I'll be happy this entire generation. The console comes together to deliever an experience that completely beats out anything I've seen before in video games. Microsoft has delievered, and I'm happy to be a loyal fan of theirs.
