I like the list. Here are a few that should have been included, though:

Commodus in, "The Gladiator."

Detective Alonzo Harris in, "Training Day."

Keyser Soze in, "The Usual Suspects."

Dudley Smith, "LA Confidential"

The bottom line is that someone is making poor decisions at Bungie/Activision. Its hard to tell if this is due to greed, or general ineptitude, but the result is the same, either way: Destiny is not what it could have been. A brief glance around at what other game companies are doing with story should be more than enough to convince anyone of this.

Bummer. Once upon a time, I was hyped.

@slappy54: The rating he gave that game is consistent with what it earned on metacritic. I don't see the problem.

I think all of this can be summed up as follows: If one of the major features of your "additional content," is, "Surprise! We are making you redo everything you already did," you probably suck. For awhile, I was on board with their statements, like, "we have been listening to you, and we are making adjustments based on your feedback!" But, at this point, I am left wondering how on earth the missed the mark so badly in the first place.

Dear Bungie:

Its not enough to reassure us that your game will probably be fun some time in the future. I have no reason to invest any more time in your game right now, and if I stop now, I won't be around for whatever changes you have planned for the future, no matter how swell those changes might be.

@nigelholden @NonaryGamer Nigel, I just realized that from now on, I need to look to see if you have already posted before I bother, because you have generally covered it. This actually has me feeling a bit paranoid. Are you actually IN my brain? If so, please get out. Wait WAIT WAIT. You can stay. That's awesome. No NO. You have to get out. Too creepy...

Anyway, kudos for generally agreeing with me. This means you are generally correct! ;) (That's a joke people - calm down.)

I think its important to differentiate between being a good/strong person in terms of morality, and being a strong character in terms being interesting. Trevor is the perfect example of this. He's an awful person, but a fabulous character. I'm at the edge f my seat in each of his scenes, wondering what he is going to do next, but I certainly don't APPROVE of anything he does. You should play because the game is fun, and because it has a good narrative.

Similarly, Michael's wife is really interesting. She's foul, but interesting. I don't think she, (or any other female character) needs a bigger role in the game to avoid an over-all mysogynous message.

@Xeuten @Them_Apples @nigelholden @MasterOfMordor

Would this not be giving the female characters in the game special treatment? Why should they be required to go out of their way to make a strong female character, when they have not done so with the males characters?

Edit: Ugh, i really wish this site would put my response after the post to which I was responding. I think I am too lazy to clarify though...

If I understand what you are saying correctly, we agree. None of the GTA 5 characters, leads or otherwise, are good people. Some the 3 main characters might be construed to have some redeeming qualities. I think its arguable. THEY certainly perceive themselves to have redeeming qualities. I don't know if that means we should buy into that.

I don't think not having a female main character, and therefore allowing all of the women to fall into the background of other scumbag characters amounts to misogyny. Certainly, the point is sufficiently arguable that requiring Rockstar to include a female lead to dodge the "misogynous" tag fees a little unfair.

Again though, disagreeing with the reviewer does not infuse the community with the right to disregard her as a human being. We can say, "Uhhhh, way off, lady," without insulting her or calling on her to be fired.

So. I agree with most of your points. There is a definite issue with the way gamers treat people, these days. This isn't the first time someone in the broader gaming community has endured personal attacks because they did something the community didn't like. I woman from Bioware had a similar issue. None of this is acceptable. I do have 2 and a half cautionary points to gamespot, though:

1.) Thick skin. I play League of Legends. I am used to seeing people berate one another like this. The thing is, that its all EXTREMELY silly, and emotionally immature. Therefore, it has no importance. These a bunch of unimportant, poorly reasoned, uncontrolled nobodies, saying things that make that fact clear. Let it roll off your back.

2.) Expect to be questioned more than other gaming websites. The events surrounding the formation of Giantbomb.com damaged your reputation. Whether that is fair or not, some of the animosity toward your reviews comes from that. That skepticism is often expressed in juvenile and unkind ways, which isn't right, but I'm truly surprised at how vulnerable this video makes you all seem. You should already have your armor on. (I hope you don't misperceive this to mean that I don't feel badly about how people treated you.)

.5) This is only half a point because it relates to the review itself, rather than responses to it. Mysogyny is a hot topic. Its bad stuff. But, the reviewer overlooks the fact that mysogyny is only present if women are portrayed in a bad light, while MEN ARE NOT. Everyone. Absolutely everyone in GTA 5 is somehow an example of the lowest common denominator of humanity. That the women in the game are such "horrible people" is not a marked departure from any of the men. (Michael's daughter is an idiot. So is his son. Etc.)

TLDR: You are correct that there is an issue, here. This community needs to stop being such asshats. But toughen up, and expect this - especially knowing who you are. Know that bringing up things like mysogyny WILL cause backlash, and only bring it up if 1) you are prepared for that, and 2) you are VERY sure that your position is well reasoned. I'm not sure that any of this is what you did.

One last point of clarity: I devoted most of my words in this post to disagree with you on some level, but I meant what I said in the first paragraph. The way some of these people have behaved really sucks. Sorry about that.
