Had to help out my grandma yesterday

My grandmother's really depressed due to financial troubles in our family. My mom can't work, nobody will hire me, my uncle is on the brink of losing his crappy job, and both my grandparents are retired (their retirement fund is gone) and on a fixed income. So last night she called me asking about her TV (they have TV issues all the time and I'm their fixer-upper), and she sounded real depressed (I've seen her cry three times in my life: when my uncle was gored by a bull when I was little, when my great-uncle died, and during a legal proceeding). When I got there she was flat-out crying.

So I stayed the night that night. They have no air conditioning and it's extremely hot, plus their only couch is made of (fake) leather, so it was a hot and sticky ordeal. My grandfather also likes to talk. A lot. He's not senile or anything; the cogs all work, they just need a little oil is all. But he's very sociable. The problem is he talked to me until midnight last night about his time in the Navy, what he ate, what the floors were made of, what the daily routine was, what kind of guns they used (this was accompanied by two demonstrations), what life was like during WWII, what the Jews went through, what the British went through, what the Russians went through, what the Americans went through, what the Polish went through, what the Czechs went through, what the Germans went through, what the Japanese went through, his brother being shot in the butt, boot camp, how illegal immigrants are ruining the economy, the state of affairs in the local Winn-Dixie management, his parents, how he met my grandmother, the weather up North, and the weather forecast for the next week.

When this was (finally) finished, I spent the night and actually slept pretty well. My grandmother was doing better today but I had to run a million errands in the rain; I was out in the Publix parking lot (I also applied for a job there) when lightning hit a lamp nearby, triggering every car alarm in the place.

Now I'm tired and irritable and glad my grandmother's better.
