The engine is great, fights feel so amazing but the content is very limited. Unless you are committed to online play and training while not playing online, you should wait a bit longer to buy it. Do the game justify it's price tag? No. Is Capcom one to blame with coming up with non-finished content? Absolutely yes. Yet, the game mechanics are great and that is the only reason I bought the game after I criticised the mentality of Capcom for days.

@Snakepond1: Some people are not sure to buy the game or not, reviews in progress help them make their decision.

@90wushuman: It's up to the customers to reach. Mindless fan boys buying the game nevertheless, so why not companies like Capcom and other take advantage of these "easy" customers ? It's all about demand. Same with DLCs and companies' selling unfinished games for 59 $ and sell extra content as DLC to make more money. If the customers be smart and do not buy those DLCs, these companies will not be able to go with that strategy.

@veryDERPY: Arcade mode is the heart and soul of a fighting game. Leaving the arcade mode from an old time classic like Street Fighter is very stupid to say the least.

@loafofgame Yes value for money is very important as well. Also the expectations come into play too often. I really don't like it, a game which would be scored as 8 gets 7 because the expecations were too high and the game didn't meet them. The score should be based on the quality of the product not on the expectations. But unfortunately that's the case. I worked in the game industry, I reviewed lots of games and I can honestly tell you that I gave high score to some games that I didn't like playing personally but the quality of the game was high so i had to give it a good score. Also , you always compare the game to other games when you come up with a score. You are like " Oh I gave AC Unity a 7 , so if i give this game 8 does that mean it's significantly better than it ? " .

I wish we had a chance to play demos for upcoming games. It's very rare now. All we get it DLCs to get more money out of our pockets...

@loafofgame True. And there's one more point : I may dislike playing a game called XXX right now but i can like playing it 6 months later. For ex: XXX may be a game of shooter genre and i may have other shooter games on my hand and I compare XXX with others and i decide that i don't like to play it now. But 6 months later, XXX brings more joy to me than before. Also time is very important as well. I refrain buying some games just because they demand so much time. It's not about the quality nor the scores, pure time issue. With Farcry 4, with the points you made, I would definitely go for it. I would even play a re-make of Farcry 3 with different characters and different environment -keep everything the same - because the gameplay was a lot of fun.

You are right about the scores' impact but still even though you know how irrelevant they can be, you still look up to it and get affected by it even 10 % . I am honestly affected by seeing a 7 out of 10 score for a Farcry 4 game. I thought it would be one of the best of 2014. Would that stop me buying the game and enjoying it ? Probably not. But still... :)

@grin89 @TitanPolaris ignore it if you don't like it. Not everybody likes one-two sentence comments, he put the work in writing it. Be respectful !

@Jaxith @elderdrake It's important. I classify games in my head with the points. I was seriously considering buying Farcry 4 before the review and I trust gamespot reviews a lot. But seeing it as 7 instead of 8 make me think twice. I can care less about the story, so the game getting minus points because of it is irrelevant for me. What made Farcry 3 great for me was the gameplay and the sandbox features. I really loved being in that jungle and freely wreak havoc. I didn't care much about the story - the story in farcry3 was pretty bad and simple as well-.

If i didn't read elderdrake's comment i probably would've waited longer to buy this game. But him playing the game and having my perspective , I now tend to buy it.

Score is really important, it doesn't mean everything but nowadays you can't get demos ( for most of the games ) and you don't really know if the game would appeal to you. You can't easily spend 60 $ on a game without being sure of it's quality - at least me - . Those comments like elderdrake's help us on our purchasing decisions. It's very useful so are the scores. I don't mind if the score was 8.5 or 8, but 7 is quite low for a Farcry 4 game when you consider the expectations.

A game getting 9 out of 10 doesn't mean I'll like playing it. Take, Divinity: Original Sin as an example. I bought the game, it'a pretty good game and it had terrific scores but the game didn't appeal to me. We probably shouldn't get affected by the scores as much but as i mentioned above, we don't have demos, we don't have a chance to get our hands on a game before purchasing it. So we take scores more seriously than we should.
