I'd have to agree with the previous comment- CoD4 is easily the best shooter that has been made in the last 5 years, the funniest part about this situation is that it came out more than a year ago and it still hasn't been topped as an overall package. The single player is one of the best, most intense, cinematic campaigns that has ever been produced, and the multiplayer is ridiculously addictive and so simple you should be able to pick it up and have a blast. The latest Call of Duty, World at War, has a little more than CoD4 in the sense that you can play the campaign split-screen with a friend offline, and with 3 others online, but you have to consider that the campaign in that game is nowhere near as polished or solid as CoD4's, which keeps you coming back to it, basically, in terms of 'bang for your buck' you get much, much more with CoD4 and its far more satisfying.
However, I don't know if I would make a decision about what game your getting until Killzone 2 has come out; I'm getting it this weekend like many others and hope it lives up to the hype... Basically if its as good as every reviewer that has had a chance to play it says it is, I'll have to advise you to get that. It's a benchmark game, amazing graphics, intense campaign, solid multiplayer, and the mechanics are pretty simple to pick up and play, but like I said before, not having put hours and hours into it like the two Call of Duty games really limits what I can say about it.
