Great article!

I personally have no problem with war game shooters being unrealistic. Hell, Counter-Strike (1.6 and Source) has kept me thoroughly entertained for several years. Sure, CS isn't a realistic simulation of military/special forces combat, but that doesn't bother me at all because it isn't billed as such. To me it's simply a special-forces "themed" shooter with great game mechanics and design. On the other hand, when these disingenuous developers make bombastic claims about striving to achieve war combat authenticity, all I can say is: Pfft! Get real."

@Landsharkk Yeah, that stat didn't seem right to me either. Even if it was limited to MMORPGs and dedicated online shooters, it'd still seem like it should be higher.

That stat certainly must not refer to "any" game that utilizes online connectivity, or else it's waaaaaay off.

Yeah, I agree with KVO. I'd like to see less scripted, actual "gameplay" demonstrations. But I guess this is just the nature of big show game demos now.... They've got a limited time to do their presentations, plus, A LOT of money is riding on the success of these games; ergo, the presentations are going to be prepackaged, scripted, and flashy. In addition, there are many more superficial gamers out there than there are core gamers who appreciate qualities like interesting story and character depth, challenging gameplay, and noteworthy "gameplay" innovations. The superficial gamers are content with 'making all sorts of cool things happen' in-game with minimal effort and skill. These presentations are for them, not us.

@b10nutz Lol, yeah. Same here.I've longed for another good cyberpunk game to get immersed in since playing Shadowrun on the SNES many, many years ago.... I trust CD Projekt Red can and will deliver a great one. Really looking forward to this one. /tracked

@spoonybard-hahs Then again, it's not like you absolutely 'have to' work for one of the mega-conglomerate publishers and/or development studios. The indie development route seems to become more practical and viable with each passing year. And then there's landing a dream job with Valve!Just sayin', if a game development education seems interesting to you, the post-education prospects are not entirely damning.
