Also, developers get paid beforehand, sales only dictate whether or not the game will have continuation. And judging by them numbers of torrenting, it isn't hurting sales that much.
Point fingers all you want, but if someone can't pay, someone can't pay. No money or earning is lost. On the other hand, the guy who wanted to play a good game will miss out on a great experience because he isn't loaded with enough dosh to waste 60$ on a video game. Some people have more important expenses than that.
That is, of course, excluding cheapskates. If anything, I buy games just to get a nifty boxart and extras.
@Tyron1234 Well, if you're a software developer, then you should already know the people who work on a project get paid beforehand, and not by how the game sells, unless an agreement was set on it.
