Well, i was bored one day so I decided to write about how exactly I thought marching season for band was. I chose to blog since I keep quiet most of the time and I guess some people just wanna know my thoughts. Back in Junior High, my brother and cousin told me high school band is so different from junior high band that I may hate it, but they were wrong. I guess since I've liked band since 6th grade you can call me a band geek >.> Well anyways, here's my experiences starting from the very beginning.
So the beginning, billions of years in the past... ok too far, let's start it off in Freshman bandcamp which i think started early August. On this day, I kinda just talked to the people i already knew, met others(I think i met Victor, Diana, and Waldo on this day). These first two days were cake-walk. And as we all know, walking with cake is easy. All we had to do were some of the easiest commands most people learned back in Jr. High days. This week was a little interesting, I didn't really expect to befriend anyone from any other schools(clowie and waldo are awesome!), or to see my section leader was nice(I expected him to be a jerk for some reason, no offense victor)
Week 1 Full band
This is where things started getting a little more interesting. Here, i meet the other upperclasmen of my section, and other upper****en of any section actually. Hmm, i guess notable people I met this week would be Erik(awesome sax-player, really funny) and I got to know Chris more(toddosaur!) Clowiechu too, and anyone from my section. I think i got my nick-name this week from Armando, it was either this week or the next one, I just knew it was during band camp. Ehh, sectionals were kinda boring, but looking back, i feel bad for messing around the times i did =/. It was cool how much freedom we got to mess around though(even if it wasn't that much...). Water-guns are awesome!
Week 2 Full band
This week was weird. Yep. We started drill, and it wasn't as hard to learn as anyone thought. I lost my coordinate chart the same week i got it lmao. We ended the week with a little showcase and with a little band picnic. The picnic was pretty fun though, it showed how much people in band messed around. Really fun week. I don't think i met anyone new this week, except maybe bailey(that ol' band geek, she's funny!). The ending of this week gave me a pretty good impression on band. It really did make me want to continue it for the rest of my high school career(which I am!). I think i met other awesome upperclasmen during football games and 7th period.
Football Games
Hah these were awesome times. I sat next to Erik, near victor, and I think i met Josh(awesom-est senior, I'm his pokemon! lol) during football games we pretty much just sat there and almost did nothing, only make fun of cheerleaders(no offense to any of them) get our hopes up for nothing(jesus some of these games were F*cking pathetic) and just laugh our asses off for some of the stupidest shet. I think I had my first true "freshmen" experience at the first game, where I actually got nervous to perform. At a stupid football game! jeez!. Well, football games were really fun, it's definitely not going to be the same not being near Josh, Erik, and Victor. And Clowiechu isn't going to be there next year! Ughh, so what if I didn't sit next to you? lol. Hmm, now i wonder who I am going to sit next to next year... Oh well, now to competitions...

The announcer dude called us "The Sierra Vista Marching Dons" which i think sounds kinda boring, since BP sucks more than us and they are called something like "The Baldwin Park Braves' Entertainment Core" or some crap like that, the should'a named us "The SV Marching dons' regiment" or something better!

Songs: Estancia, Cuban Cowboy, Santana.
March: Glorious Victory(I didn't really liked it, so I called it "Tragic Defeat")
Competitions/Band Reviews:
Our first competition was at Etiwanda. I don't think anyone really knew, but the 2 schools we went up against were flippin' tough competition. I mean sure we didn't have our complete show done, but sh*t seriously, in some captions, the first place school beat us by more than 30 points! Not 3.0, but 30! I don't remember exact scores, but i know our highest caption was in the 60's and the first place school was in the upper 70's low 80's. The bus-rides are hecka fun. Breaking silence is the most stupid/random funny shet. Over an hour of playing the DS and Dirty Minds(stupid andrew!). Yup, Idk if anyone said our bus was boring, the DS stuff was fun. I don't think we saw these guys any more at any competitions. I guess they competed in BOA(bands of america) instead of the ones we competed in.
Our second competition was canceled, and it was supposed to be our first competitive band review since like, forever? Ehh, oh well. It was supposed to be at Loara
Now hosting was our 3rd competition. This has to be one of the most awesome-est days of the year. I started talking to most of my upper****en friends on this day. I think i spent more than half the day walking around with Josh. Being at school at like 6am then leaving the next day at like 2am was freaken awesome. And this was the first time we performed our first full show, and the adrenaline rush right after the performance was just amazing. It's that feeling in your stomach after doing something really good, but you can't really explain it in words. Our competition has some really bad schools, and some super amazing hardcore schools. Some bad schools, including ones that had there VERY first competition there. And some hardcore schools, schools that won SCSBOA field championships(West ranch highschool 3a, william S. Hart Highschool 4a, and Los osos high school 5a(i think they went, these guys were the only ones im not sure that went) I wonder why they went to our competition instead of some of the other ones where they would probably still win first place. I'm definitely looking forward to future tournaments where we host. Hosting a tournament is just a part of being a marching don.
The other tournaments didn't really have too much significance. At Chaffey we got 2nd in all captions(out of two, I don't remember the scores). At BPHS we won second in all captions also(but it was out of 4 this time so it was pretty cool) and Savanna was pretty dissappointing. For some reason, we were placed to compete with the other better high schools. I was really confused since some of the schools in the lower sub-division beat us at other competitions. Ehh, none of these competitions were all that awesome but I guess they were all a good experience. Oh yeah, eating at IHOP right after competitions is bomb! At IHOP, we see other bandgeeks walking around and were like the only ones there, just talking about experiences like this. We went after chaffey, and the parade, AND the winter concert.
After our championships(savanna, not SCSBOA champs, just ours for some reason) Garcia felt bad that we didn't get to do a band review, so he scheduled us to compete at night parade in some city that I forgot. This was probably my favorite(2nd after hosting)competition of marching season. The review was an awesome experience. Being able to walk around a nice city, with all the lights and stuff. It was pretty awesome, and at the end, i thought, even if we don't place well, it was a fun experience. I think there were about 4 competing schools and it took FOREVER to be announced at the judges stand. They had to give out the stupid awards like "best float" and other crap like that first. I remember when they started announcing high schools, i just heard our high school and thought in my head "OMG! we got placed!" roflmao. To my surprise we actually placed first, with only 1.5 points away from sweepstakes. 1.5!!! Pretty amazing since it was our first review since 1990, and the other schools have been to others during the season. I seriously didn't think we were going to even get placed since the other bands looked so damn confident. But even so, looking confident is barely even half of it. We really pulled through to end the marching season well. I hope we do more parades like this next year.
Well, with all that being said, band generally is an indescribable experience. Winning 1st place, making friends, seeing other bands, and so many other things make band such an inclusive experience. You can't really experience it from any other activity at all. I guess from my blog, i could say that meeting people, kicking it at competitions, and just being a band geek is more than half of the experience of being a band geek. Me and a girl from guard talk about band all the time in 3rd, we even talked about how it's "fun" to change in co-ed in busses, and all the non-band geeks around us are all like "Double-yoo tee eff!?!?!? You band geeks are so weird!". Weird to them, normal to us. I guess in our reality, normal is weird, and weird is normal. This concludes my blog about my 2007-2008 freshman marching band season. I might write one about drumline season if I get bored enough. Maybe even a mini one on wind ensemble.

Reason for no Reviews

Well, for the next few weeks I won't be able to write any reviews. The first reason is because I don't have my DS(it broke awhile back) and i write most of my reviews on that. Secondly, I won't be writing anything because of my basic hype for brawl. I won't be buying any wii games just because I'll be occupied with that. Well thats all for now.
