Over the years, there has grown a sharp divide between religion and Science. There are more and more Militant Atheists surfacing, and at the same time the amount of Fundamentalist Bible Thumpers grow at a tremendous rate. Each seems to think the other poses a threat to them. They think that as long as the other exsists, their very belief system is threatened. But, this is so amazingly far from the truth, it's amazing few of these people realize it.
Now, we know there are normal atheists and people of religion who get along fine, but then, we arent starting up a ruckus are we. These two extremists are waging war against eachother, right down to political legislation that attempts to limit or counter the other. Pushing ID as Science Fact, and trying to band religious people from even wearing a religious symbol when at work. It gets progressively worse as time progresses, and the picture doesnt get any prettier if this battle continues.
The humor in all of this, is that neither has a real affect on the other. Religion has nothing to do with science, science has nothing to do with religion. Religion is based off the teachings of a god and his prophets, teaching us how to best live our lives and worship the one who graced us with life and free will. And yet, it seems that some religious people think the bible was made as a technicle manual on how the universe was created. So i will make this simple....
IT WAS NOT. It's easy to tell that god did not really even ATTEMPT to explain the universe to man of that era, because man of that era would not understand. Look at things like Genesis, you can see it is either a misinterpretation by the man who wrote it, or pure speculation of what happened based on what he was told. The bible is the key to our lives, not the answer to our scientific questions.
Science does not prove nor disprove god. That is not it's purpose. Science merely explains how god's universe works. That's it, it is that simple. God made the universe, science tells us how it was run. Some argue science say's god did not make the universe. I disagree. There was a big bang, there was evolution, but it is all part of what he designed. Did you know, everything that would ever happen in this universe, astronomically, was decided within the first few moments of the big bang? For those of you who are religious, science is giving you a peek into his work. If god does indeed exsist, it is my belief his work was done within the timespan of creating and directing the big bang. He determined the layout and movement of particles within the big bang which would therefor dictate the physics and layout of our universe years later.
Think about it. There was a 1 in a trillion chance that the universe would turn out the way it did. There was a 1 in 10 chance that 5 of a million different things could have happened where the universe would have been uninhabitable.
The point is, there is and always will be room for god, you just have to have faith if you are religious. Atheists arent out to get you, they just dont like faith. And there is nothing wrong with that, and i think God can understand that. He will reward those of us who have faith, and while i dont think he'll banish atheists to hell, i think they will be left without his grace and love because of their unwillingness to take a leap of faith. But i dont think god can understand the two assaulting eachother. I believe in the end, the TRUE test for those of religion, is to ACCEPT and Acknowledge all of science, living with the raitonal required to accept evolution and the big bang, and yet still be able to maintain that faith in god. Religion does not need to influence science or your study of science. Science, does not need to interfere in your study and practice of religion.
In the end, it is as simple as this: Religion and the bible tell us why god created us, and what he wants us to do. Science tells us how his universe works.
