Okay...you know how there are those games you just can not forget?
Stuff like...Goldeneye, Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VII, Grand Theft Auto III...
Well, I have figured out one of (if not the) reason why these games are so unforgetable!
It came to me while I was on the Mortal Kombat Deception board...
Someone had just discovered Kintaro (any old school MK players know who this is) in the middel of nowhere...and when they tried to talk to him, he just dissapeared into a puff of smoke. (all in konquest mode)
Everyone was going nuts...well...not nuts, but they were all very excited...even me! And I dont even own the game yet!
Thats when it hit me...stuff like this...its what makes us never forget these games!
Anyone that played Goldeneye knows what I am talking about right now...
Remember when we discovered the island on the dam? Remember when we actually got to go there with gameshark? Remember all the mystery and unknown about the place that just made us go crazy trying to figure it out?
Or maybe we should talk about the more sillier things, like when we were searching for Oddjob in the Dam, or Mayday in the streets...
Or maybe something that is more recent, like the Citadel? Remember when Rare kept telling us it was not in the game, we would never find it...then just a few months back, we finally found it?
Things like this...the things that make us search through a game so much just to find that one little thing...its this that makes a truly remarkable game!
Another example is Ocarina of Time...how long were people looking for the Triforce? How long were people looking for the golden armors, the white horse, and all that other crap people made up?
How about when we all tried to beat the running man?
Or we could look at Final Fantasy VII...the whole thing with Aeris is now one of the biggest things in gaming history!
Then there are more recent things...like Grand Theft Auto III
Why is it that so many consider GTAIII better then Vice City?
is it the gameplay? cant be...Vice City SURLY beats it there...
missions? I dont see how...GTAIII was just as repetitive (but fun) as Vice City's missions (well, this IS arguable, but you get my point)
the real reason I think people like GTAIII more is because, well, it was a huge mystery...
can anyone honestly say they were not trying to find a way to fly the dodo? trying to find Carcer city? Finding crap with Darkel? How about the 7 lifts?
You see, Vice City didnt have the mystery or the intrigue that GTAIII had...that is why many vets of GTAIII consider it better, while n00bs (not really n00bs, but people who started with Vice) consider Vice City better...
anyways, I may be rambling now...the real point I am trying to make is that crap like this makes games truly remarkable...and I must give a hand to Boon (MK Co-Creator) as he could not have shown this more better with the konquest mode...
