Rent or Buy a game? (Based on Darksiders)
by Toumouz on Comments
This is a huge decision to make, rent or buy a game. Is this game really worth paying 59.99$ or should I only pay 10$ for a week? Here are some questions that helped me make my decisions. 1st: Is this game I am going to buy is appealing to me? Is it my type of game? 2nd: Is there realistic graphics that goes well with the mood of the game? Does the point of view is placed at a good spot (Behind the shoulder, 1st person, God Mode…)? 3rd: Is it a good gameplay? Are the controls clear and easy to understand or extremely complicated? 4th: Is the storyline unpredictable, exciting and interesting? Are the characters well balanced, not too exaggerated and not to (childish)? 5th: (My favorite) Is there constant adds-on to the gameplay, new weapons, new ways to perform kills, combo, boosts, is there new abilities, new creatures… Are the boss Epic? Is it repetitive or does it have major twist to amplify the momentum? 6th: Is the game too easy? Does it contain side quests? Is there an online, are they trophies or in game unlockable? For an example, I’ll take Darksiders for PS3, it is a game I really want to play, but I don’t know if I should rent it or buy it. Darksiders looks like a mix between God Of War and Gears Of War, God Of War because of the gore atmosphere and the bloody heartless way to kill enemies, and Gears Of War because of its graphics and look alike characters. Darksiders is my type of game, adventure/action/slash games, and the graphics looks pretty nice, (when I saw the HD Preview). The bloody and destruction mood of this game goes well with the sounds effects and the graphics. The gameplay is said to be a bit harsh and complicated but when you get used to it, it feels nice. The story line is the low point of this game, at first the plot looks interesting, but as soon as you progress through the game, it becomes predictable and steals away some twist and spice to the game. The game is said to be based on a LOT of weapon upgrades and abilities, but not so much weapons. There are some side quests that can add a couple of hours to the gameplay. The boss battles look classic, but nice. The game has 3 difficulty levels (I think) which is a nice way to re-evaluate your gaming skills as the monsters become stronger. The PS3 trophies can add some fun and time to the game, but nothing significant as every game on the PS3 is obligated to add these. There is no online on Darksiders, so no additional co-op mode or any possible online experience. With the upcoming arrival of God Of War III, Darksiders is surely a game I’ll want to play, but I still have the impression that a week rental is fairly enough to have plenty of fun through the 20 hour gameplay of ripping wings out of angels and beating the crap out of demons… Yes a week is enough.
