I have an old xbox360, and it's loud, i just turn the volume up on my TV, As for the problem of your xbox overheating ?????, a small plasic fan above your xbox, works for me. as for saving your games maybe you could log in and save your profile on a memory stick and then enable cloud storage to save your game saves on ????, until you get a hard drive ????ram192
That's what I have been doing, turning up the volume, and no, it doesn't overheat.
[QUOTE="The_Last_Ride"]well it could be normal if it is an older version. Also just get a harddrive-Wicked_Sick-
This is the way to go.

I ended up just buying a hard drive. Turns out it had to be within seven days to get a full refund... so I decided it was best to keep it and work with it.

[QUOTE="TrinityBlair899"]A friend of mine bought me a refurbished Xbox 360 from GameStop not too long ago but it didn't come with a Storage System so I can't download my profile, or play any of my games... however, that isn't the problem I am concerned about right now: it is really loud! It doesn't hum like a normal working Xbox 360. It is really loud and really distracting. I have no idea why it's doing this because it's not over heating. Help?GamersPulse
It could be the fan. It could also be the disc if you hear the sound when it's playing a game. If it's loud when the disc is in, the eye in the drive needs to be recaliberated. To be honest, I think your friend wasted their money. I get xbox 360s come to me for repairs after people buy the "refurbished" xbox 360s from Game Stop. They are garbage. They don't clean them, they over cook the board, and peices are missing. I took a board out of it's cradle and the board just disentegrated. Even their controllers are garbage. They claim to be refurbished and the joysticks are barely hanging on and the controllers are dirty. When they say it's "refurbished" it basically means that it's working just enough to play.

Yeah... I think it was a waste of money as well. The Xbox makes the loud noise even without playing a game... and the controller sounds like there is a loose piece rattling inside. Do you know if I have it cleaned and replace parts (if they need replacing) it will be worth the purchase? Or should I just have my friend return it for another?

I know what you mean about them being loud. I have an old 60gb as well as a slim 320gb and I didn't realise how loud they were until I switched. If it's a first gen 20gb/arcade model then it's bound to be really loud and kind of sounds like it's about to explode. If you're worried about it you can always take it back to gamestop with the receipt and get it exchanged. However, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Do you know what model it is?

No, I don't know what model it is nor how to find out. Is there a specific place on the console where the model type is printed?

I was planning to get a storage unit anyways, but the noise is really annoying and frustrating. I don't know how old is considered "old" but even so, is there a way to lesson the sound?

no there is no making it quieter. What i mean old is older version not the new slim model

Oh, that's a pity. Well, thanks anyways!
