I don't know about you, but I have been seeing one too many games running around stealing other peoples' hard earned dough. These games pass themselves off as inexpensive and cheap entertainment, but are nothing more than traps for the foolish consumer.
Yes, these games are cheap, but that's what they are, cheap. Instead of the $50 of a modern big bang smash hit, they are $15-20 hunks of junk that do nothing more than pollute this world and clog up your dvd cases. Imagine if you were to save that $15, you'd be able to spend it on something worthwhile later on; whether it's instant like gas to the next store, or saved and spent on that dream game. Not only that, but by stepping back and not purchasing these games sends a clear signal to these companies that they need to spend a little more time and research on their "St. Anger".
Ok, ok, some of these companies that produce these horrid titles use them as statistical research, but that just rattles in my head as just one big "huh!?". What happened to pulling little Jonny and Suzy aside and letting them test these games and have them give their opinion along with their parents? Paying someone cold, hard earned cash just to test their flop of a product isn't my idea of fun, it's my idea of boycotting that company.
So, Gryphon, how do we avoid being scammed by companies that don't believe that it takes money to make money? Well, I say do your research before purchasing a game that costs less than the others around it! There are plenty of websites that offer great information, reviews, and player opinions. Gamespot (play cheesy holy noise) is the perfect spot, ya know! When you do the research, look at the overall review, player reviews, and even the date of release. Date of release you say? Yup, sometimes the age of a game can affect its overall price. If the game has been out for 2-3 years, the price will generally be lower due to the lower demand and higher supply in the world.
All in all, we need to stop supporting these companies that spend just a couple of months developing a game, whether if it's for public research or not. If you are one of these companies, all I hear out of your games is "I'm desperate for you cash" and you need to stop and reanalyze your portfolios on public opinion towards gaming entertainment. You will generally find that when you do put a little sweat on your brow, you can line your pockets a more and more with each droplet.
Side note: Yes, I did make a slam against Metallica's latest blunder, er, album I mean! (play maniacal laughter)
