All of the newer 360's (premium and elites , not sure about teh arcade system) have a port for HDMI. If yours doesn't have the HDMI port on the back then yes it is an older 360.
They will not make the HDDVD required for any game since the majority of those with 360's don't have one, and forcing your user base to buy an add on when they've got a perfectly good machine already. I don't understand why everyone keeps mentioning putting games on HDDVD just because Sony is using BD. It isn't going to happen and if it did many people would stop buying games due to not wanting to purchase the add on which will hurt Microsoft and they know this.
I've seen similar issues with my Panasonic tv (it's a really old HD tv not even widescreen) and also with my friends RCA prjection). The picture is great but it seems like they cut off part of where subtitles are or certain info on the HUDs on some games. It's not bad enough to mess up game play just enough to be annoying. So far I haven't found a way to fix it though.
