If you haven't heard this you should be severely beaten, GTA IV is out. Which means my curiosity has been peaked and I decided to make my first venture into the series. A few days ago I logged into the awesomeness that is Steam to find a package deal of GTA, GTA 2, GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas for $30 (How much did you spend on 'em? 8) ). So, here is my crazy late review(s):
GTA doesn't work, CTD right after starting.
GTA 2 is pretty amusing, you just have to keep the frame rate limit on if your pc is better than a C64 or you go crazy fast. Also, the way you save is REALLY irritating, I've found this with all of them but way more on 2.
GTA 3 is pretty dull, the atmosphere is way too dreary, the game-play is slow, the story thus far is uninteresting, and the graphics are ugly. I can see how it was "the sh*t" back in the day, the large living city was quite a technological feat and it has a very different play style than any of the other games released around then. Not to mention that it was one of the first sandbox games.
Vice City is probably my favorite of them all right now. The characters are really interesting and amusing, the city is vivid and has more than just slums. The story has been very entertaining what with the exploding of buildings and all, and the cars are damn sexy. Not to mention...the main character can speak!!1! Also, KChat is the greatest radio station ever.
San Andreas: Where did my awesome cars go?! I don't wanna jack some dudes POS hoopty! Where's the fun in that? Oh, well. Besides that, I like it. It looks nice on the graphics side, the gunfights seem to control better, the story is good even though its pretty much "green vs pink" right now. My only real complaint is that the camera spins to slow from driving in reverse to forward causing me to smash into all sorts of stuff. I'm not sure if I like the whole stats thing where it makes you work out or get fat and stuff, I think it just distracts from the story.
So, there you go. After years on this site, I finally wrote something. Woo!
