[All of my information on World of Warcraft is based from about 1 year ago, a few months after WOTLK was released, I do not play this game any longer, nor do I intend to ever go back to it.]
I've played many MMOs over the years, and I've found one common trend in all of them. There are always going to be jobs that overpower your own job this is just how life goes. Rangers poop on Mages due to their lack of armor, Mages poop on Warriors due to their lack of range, and Warriors poop on whatever they can reach. Now, this is legitimate, and I would say it is a fairly just triangle. The Ranger and Mage must keep their distance from the Warrior whilst dwindling down his health points, that is their job. Warriors must distract and trick their opponents into getting within range, thus providing them with an ample amount of opportunity to smash their opponents into oblivion. However, these triangles are not always equilateral.
As stated before, I have played quite the large ammount of MMOs out there. Since some of them are unheard of, or less popular, I shall use something that every gamer should know, World of Warcraft. In this game, you would think the job triangle would apply. This is far from what actually occurs in the game, as many will find out upon reaching higher levels, even low levels in some cases. For instance, a Mage has so many overpowered skills they should absolutely DESTROY Warriors and Paladins before they even get close. However, all the Warrior has to do is charge and hope his Execute procs, thus one-shotting the poor clothie with a good 10-14k damage. The Hunter possesses the same goal as the Mage, but with more effective means of executing it. Pet -> Feign -> Unleash hell with your various instant cast spells and stings and arrows -> Disengage -> Charge up a killshot -> End of whoever was running at you. This is ridiculous as is, not even including the vast amount of power that their pet contains. I could go on about these jobs and how absurdly overpowered some are (such as Death Knights, Druids, Rogues, etc), but they are examples, and I must move on.
Now that I've given examples, I would like to get back to the MAIN point of my rant. Every last MMO that has ever been released has absolutely not balance of power, and the company seems to be ill-informed of such oddities, despite the wall of public forum posts stating this. Occasionally, jobs will be balanced. Next, every other jobs gets buffed. Now the OP job has effectively become underpowered, recycling all this garbage yet again. In my opinion, jobs should all be balanced the way they were meant to be, and that player skill should be the determining factor in a fight.
