Why would a business stop producing something that sells like hot cakes. Let's also mention that these games have also scored very well with critics as well. I wouldn't call them masterpieces, but they are the gaming worlds equivalent of the summer action blockbuster.

I still love my physical media, the last thing I want to be given is the ultimatum repurchases the same games over each gen or live without them. Or even worse not having access to a classic because its won't be profitable enough for a re-release. Atleast with something like Steam I'm allowed to back my games up to physical media even if it is with the caveat that it can only be used via Valve's service.

I wonder if they'll add SFX al la Genesis. Nothing like a highly distorted muaaaaaaaahh while making a player flip upside down from a check. The SNES SFX while technically better don't hold a special place in my heart for whatever reason.

Agreed, stories that leave just the right amount to imagination are much more memorable... at least for me. The same goes for movies as well IE: I always loved the mystery behind the Space Jockey in Alien or even the mystery of what happened before and after the original Star Wars triliogy (4,5,6). The reality is when you try to answer questions that were left to ambiguity you'll never satisfy a large portion of the original fan base since they have formulated there own personal answer and no matter how good the spin off/sequel is it can't live up to someones imagination.

That's funny considering Halo 2 had a huge fan base on Live until they cut original xbox game support

The other thing is where does this leave us after the next gen is over and M$'s next console is no longer supported, my games will all be bricked at that point. Sounds just like the HD version of Terminator 2 that came with the Extreme edition DVD it was a great copy of the movie but since the files have DRM that needs to be reactivated every 5 days they are unusable now since the servers were shut down back in 09.

Yea this sounds like a great idea, so when everyone's internet was down for days upon days after Hurricane Sandy hit my area we'd all be screwed if we had a NextBox. Yea I'll deal with it by not buying your next console idiot.
