I guess people here don't see the kind of emotional impact a game like this could have. This game could be made, EASILY, with Jack as the "hero" character without trying to justify or condone the grisly murders that took place. Kudos to anyone who actually reads all this! I should probably blog it, but meh!
Imagine, if you will, throughout the entirety of the game you're playing as "Jack" taking out monsters and demons thinking you're doing humanity a great and Just service and you are the hero of the day. Then, in a surprise twist ending you find that your character has actually been laying on an operating table the entire time while doctors poke and prod his brain in an effort to discover what makes the psychotic mind tick.
You find out that the huge, crazy devil-looking thing you destroyed back in level 5 was actually Jack's psychological manifestation of his abusive father. Or that riculously tough vampire mini-boss in the middle of stage 3 was actually a representation of Jack's strung out, drug addict mother.
The entire game could be a story of how Jack perceives himself as a hero and doing what is right, when in fact it is him battling the "demons" of his mind or what he conceives as "evil". It would be a game neither glorifying nor condemning the actions of the actual murderer (whom ever it may have been, as the case is STILL unsolved).
As JC Denton said, it could be a game exploring the psyche of a particularly disturbed individual like the Silent Hill series. It would be a great concept. The entire time you think you're doing good and when the ending comes, it hits you, "Damn, none of that was real and this Jack the Ripper guy was one REALLY messed up character." It would be a story that would leave some sort of mark on the player and have them thinking about long after they've finished the game. Like a good book or a movie like Jacob's Ladder.
Regardless, the details from EA and Visceral are slim, stop making such a fuss about it when all we have to go on is a tiny sliver of information.I wish people wouldstop with the ludicrous Hitler analogies. Killing is wrong no matter how you look at it, but 5 prostitutes is NOT comparitive in the slightest toTHATdouchebags desire for Mass Genocide.
