Apparently not the best among all PCs.

That makes perfect sense, does it not?

Espada12

Doesn't change the fact the PC version is the best version.

I agree, of this generation, PC's are the highest.

But conversely, PC's are also the lowest and must be factored into both game development decesions, and into "platform vs. arguments" as well.

I have to go, but if you have any comments or questions, I'll be back on later. :)

[QUOTE="Masculus"]

So an example of a late port shows that PC is holding back consoles?

Espada12

Um...ok...have another:

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows XP Sp2/Vista Sp1
Processor:P4 2.8GHz (3.2GHz Vista)/Athlon 64 3000+ (3200+ Vista)
Memory:1GB (1.5GB Vista)
Hard Drive:12GB
Video Memory: graphics card with 256MB (SM 2.0b). NVidia 6800 or ATI X700.
Sound Card:DX9.0c compliant
DirectX:9.0C
Keyboard & Mouse
DVD Rom Drive

Let me know if you need another. ;)

That makes no sense since the PC version of AA is the best by far loool.

I don't even understand the argument here to be honest. Are you saying low end PCs hold back PC gaming? Because if you are that's pretty silly, there are graphics options on the PC for a reason.

Espada12

Right,

But those low end specs and gameplay decisions based on those low end specs have to be factored in.

In laymens terms....your only as strong as your weakest link

In the PC world, there are alot of weak links.

For years I've heard the sentiment from the PC crowd that Consoles are somehow holding back PC games. But I've somewhat recently come to a shocking discovery....the truth, if you will...

Consoles aren't holding back PC gaming for this generation....PC's are holding back PC gaming, and very well might be holding back console gaming too.

Is that blasphemy? Not if you consider the full scope and range of the PCs in question. I mean, sure, at the high end, PCs are surely the most powerful, but then, what about low end PCs that are used for this generation's retail games?

Take the fair and moderately recent 2009 game STREET FIGHTER 4 for example,

Minimum:

OS: Windows XP

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.0GHz or higher

RAM: 1 GB or higher

HDD: 10 GB of free space or more

Video Card: DirectX 9.0c/Shader3.0 or higher compatible, NVIDIA GeForce 6600 series, ATI Radeon(TM) X1600 or higher or higher, VRAM :256MB or higher

Sound: DirectSound compatible, DirectX 9.0c (or higher) compatible

Input Devices: Mouse, Keyboard

As you can see, those specs are well below what a PS3 is capable of, even an XBOX 360.

Basically, when PC gamers say or imply that their games are being held back, they should politely and kindly be reminded that it's their own peers low end PCs that are the worst of the lot and doing the "holding back", if you will.

[QUOTE="Ninja-Hippo"] But no, they don't. :? They make Ratchet & Clank and Resistance exclusively for Sony because both franchises are exclusively licensed to them. They are now signed up with EA as a multiplatform developer. So just to summarize your arguments; Microsoft suck because they shut down studios - President of Ensemble says they were a horrible business and he was amazed they weren't shut down sooner. Microsoft suck because bungie left them - bungie left because they want to make multi-platform games, just like Insomniac no longer making games just for Sony. So... er... edo-tensei

I think you've totally misunderstood, or are possibly not totally getting it.

INSOMNIAC was never owned by Sony....never....Not this generation, not the previous generation, and not the previous gen. before that.

Right now, Insomniac recently signed on to make multiplat games that are published by EA....but guess what?

Insomnic is still making exclusive games for Sony....still. Or did you not know RESISTANCE 3 is coming soon?

Get it? They are moonlighting on the side, but still loyal to Sony and giving PS3 games that can't be played anywhere else.

Bungie, on the other hand, they got the heck away from Microsoft as soon as their "slavery term" was up. They went on the first thing smokin to get to Activision. That's how bad it must have been at Microsoft.....Bungie went to ACTIVISION for relief and comfort.

So? Bingie made halo reach at the same time they had already announced they were parting from ms, same with insomniac, even though they were never owned by sony. You're the one here in the wrong.

Wait, so Insomniac was owned by Sony?

Oh right...they weren't.

So Sony never lost Insomniac in the first place....Sony never owned them.

So you are incorrect....I'm not wrong on this count.

Microsoft is the one that lost Bungie since Bungie left Microsoft for Activision.

Perhaps you are not understanding the difference between first party and 3rd party developers.

That still doesn't excuse Valve from being overrated or a One Trick Pony.

PannicAtack

How? How is Valve a one-trick pony?

Because all Valve does is make first Person shooter/perspective games, based off of their outdated 7 year old engine.

Most of the games Valve seems to get credit for, Valve didn't even make themselves....their mod and Steam community did.

Valve is basically an overrated Mod Maker....basically.

Their 1 trick is the HALF LIFE franchise.

That's why they are a ONE TRICK PONY.

Do you even know what steam is?lawlessx

I know Steam and/or Steamworks is coming to the PS3 and I will be able to play with and against PC players....

That's all I need to know.

That still doesn't excuse Valve from being overrated or a One Trick Pony.

If Valve weren't such fraudelent shams, I might have more respect for their game development as a whole.

But currently, they basically pilfer and cherry pick better talent and teck under the guise of their Steam community.

Overrated One Trick Pony...that's what Valve basically is.

I don't think shutting studios down through choice counts as losing them.Ravensmash

If they had studios, and then one day they stopped having them, then yes....that counts as losing studios. I'm not interested in the reasons....I'm interested in the results.

Microsoft has lost many studios this generation,

Conversely, Sony and Nintendo have not.

Microsoft is less than its direct peers when it comes to keeping studios.
