I had a few days off recently so I thought it would be a good time to activate a free 48 hour trial of Xbox live GOLD. My thought was I could rack up a few achievements in 48 hours, so let's give it a try. I don't have a lot of free time to play, so I have not and likely will not ever buy a Gold year long membership. I did own an Xbox live membership for 3 years, but that was prior to having kids.
Well it turns out that 48 hour trial of Xbox live GOLD isn't really true, there is an interesting limit to what you can actually do. In Halo 3 for example, you can only play Social Games, and not Ranked Games. Attempting to play Ranked Games results in a message that you need an Xbox live GOLD membership. Gee, I thought I just received a free 48 hour trial of said Gold membership? I guess not, looking at account management options, it still shows my Silver membership as well as an Xbox Live Gameplay membership. No where on the card does it say, "some limits apply" or on the website http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/live/trialcard48 does it explain the limit of the trial.
How is this a true trial of what is offered on Xbox live GOLD and why would I want to sign up for a year or month, when I can't really experience a Gold Membership in a trial format. I know you can buy monthly memberships for about $8, and the 48 hour trial card was free, but there needs to be some better wording, otherwise you are going to lose potential customers. It is deceiving.
